Laura trashed in tabloid?!?!?
I'm at the checkout counter at the Stop & Shop, idly perusing the headlines of the really stupid tabloid mags on the racks when I spot the following banner atop the April 10 issue of Globe:

Now I don't know about YOU, but I have never, ever, ever seen Laura discussed in the pages of one of these rags. This thing is about as close as some people ever get to a newspaper, I mean this is a FOX audience kind of reading material.

I covered my face, bought it and brought it home in a plain brown wrapper just to see what they'd say and let. me. tell. you. It brought up all the old skeletons.. The dead boyfriend, the whole dime bag selling party girl thing.

Now THIS I take to be a true sign of the turning tides.....

18. "Laura is the Clorox Queen"
"Clorox, Formula 409 and Windex are her three favorite substances. Even while waiting for George's first presidential election results, she was holed up at the ranch in Crawford cleaning with Clorox!" (according to her close friend Nancy Weiss...)

pretty funny stuff (sorry, I couldn't find an online link)

more:
"She was always a Democrat, opposed to the Vietnam War, and although not passionate about anything political, she supported abortion. But then along came George W - a Republican, a binge boozer who couldn't hold his liquor, boisterous and dirty when he drank and anything but a reader. Headlines and the sports page were all he could focus on - but they were a match."

These excerpts are apparently from the book by Ron Kessler
"An Intimate Portrait of the First Lady" - Doubleday

33. In Pilate-like behavior she tries to wash away the sin around her
In the Gospel of Matthew (27:24), before condemning Jesus to death, Pilate washes his hands with water in front of the crowd, who had demanded that Jesus be crucified, and says, "I am innocent of this man's blood; you will see". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontius_Pilate#Acts_of_Pilate

Let the fundies chew on that image.

except, iirc, didn't Lady Macbeth start out lusting after power and then it is something called a conscience that drove her to suicide? I don't know if any of the Bush Family has a conscience much less let it get to any of them.

I had to buy it because Laura's headline left me agape at the supermarket. I'd say the tide is definately turning, albeit slowly but it is turning. This, Tom Delay and Pink's new song Dear Mr. President, gave me a sense of hope I haven't had in a long long time.

The Globe (tabloid)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Globe is a supermarket tabloid published in North America. It was founded in 1954 Montreal, Canada as Midnight by Joe Azaria and John Vader and became the chief competitor to the National Enquirer during the 1960s. In 1978 it changed its name to the Midnight Globe after its publisher, Globe Communications, and eventually changed its name to The Globe. The newspaper, as well as most of its rivals, is now owned by American Media Consumer Entertainment Inc and is published out of American Media's headquarters in Boca Raton, Florida.

In 2003, The Globe stirred up considerable controversy by publishing the name of Kobe Bryant's accuser and putting her picture on its cover. Traditionally, media in the United States have refrained from revealing the names of victims of alleged sex crimes.

Earlier, The Globe had named the accuser in the William Kennedy Smith rape case, achieving notoriety for that move. The paper also printed the transcripted tapes of Frank Gifford's affair at a NYC hotel, cheating on the then-popular Kathy Lee Gifford, his wife.

31. Bush really hates human/animal hybrid babies
Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to prohibit the most egregious abuses of medical research: human cloning in all its forms, creating or implanting embryos for experiments, creating human-animal hybrids, and buying, selling, or patenting human embryos. Human life is a gift from our Creator -- and that gift should never be discarded, devalued or put up for sale. (Applause.)

46. I get it now! Crawford, cleaning - Laura thinks she's Joan Crawford
Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 08:52 PM by Mabus

Which means Laura is "Mommie Dearest". The eyebrows tell the story.

Joan Crawford: Did you scrub the bathroom floor today? DID YOU?
Christina Crawford: Yes, Mommie.
Joan Crawford: Yes, Mommie what?
Christina Crawford: Yes, Mommie Dearest.
Joan Crawford: When I told you to call me that, I wanted you to mean it.

****

Joan Crawford: Ohhhh... Helga. When you polish the floor, you have the move the tree. If you can't do something right, don't do it at all.
Helga: I'm sorry, Miss Crawford...
Joan Crawford: Gimmie the soap. You see, Carol Ann, you've got to stay on top of things every single minute.

Joan Crawford: Carol Ann, will you get that?
Carol Ann: Yes, Miss Crawford.
Joan Crawford: Helga, I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt.

****

Joan Crawford: SCRUB, Christina. SCRUB.
