House GOP Weighs in on McKinney Incident -This Is About Politics

WASHINGTON — House Republicans pushed a resolution Tuesday commending the Capitol police force for professionalism after a confrontation between an officer and Democratic Rep. Cynthia McKinney.

"I don't think it's fair to attack the Capitol Police and I think it's time that we show our support for them," said Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., a sponsor of the measure. Ignoring a police officer's order to stop or hitting one "is never OK," McHenry said of the incident.

Last week, McKinney had an argument with a uniformed police officer as she sought to enter a House office building. The officer did not recognize her. She refused his order to stop and struck him.

McKinney says she took action in self defense after the officer "inappropriately touched" her.

I just heard from a friend that said that this sudden resignation was after a meeting with fellow Republicans and he wanted them to rip McKinney for striking a police officer because he took her striking the officer very personal but they refused. Delay apparently is thinking the Republicans have been intimidated and has turned into a bunch of wimps but still wants to help them so it helps his friends still there.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Federal agents arrested a college student after finding a small explosive device in his baggage as he passed through an airport security checkpoint.

Officials have found no apparent connection between University of Oklahoma student Charles Alfred Dreyling Jr. and any terrorist group or activity, said Agent Gary Johnson, an FBI spokesman.

Dreyling, 24, was released on $10,000 bail Thursday after appearing in federal court. He faces a federal charge of trying to get on an aircraft with an explosive device. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

But Dreyling's landlord, former Oklahoma City Mayor Kirk Humphreys, said he had created a "glorified firecracker" and forgot it was in his luggage.

I wish I could remember her name - an older female from Florida, I think, got up and said he should be called a 'foreign agent' because of his involvement, called for a roll call vote and it just went away. This AFTER democrats and republicans had gotten up to speak in favor of it. Look what happened with Feingold - esteemed politicians HIDING behind each other to avoid having to make a statement. Republicans know when there's a thorny issue they're free to sharpen their pointy toed shoes and have at 'em.
