Straight talk, jokes receive mixed reaction from labor group

Tuesday, April 4, 2006; Posted: 4:46 p.m. EDT (20:46 GMT)

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sen. John McCain threatened on Tuesday to cut short a speech to union leaders who booed his immigration views and later challenged his statements on organized labor and the Iraq war.

"If you like, I will leave," McCain told the AFL-CIO's Building and Construction Trades Department, pivoting briefly from the lectern. He returned to the microphone after the crowd quieted.

"OK, then please give me the courtesy I would give you."

It was a contentious session that tested McCain's commitment to the straight-talking image he honed during his failed 2000 presidential bid. An underdog six years ago, the Arizona Republican is expected to seek the 2008 GOP nomination as a front-runner.

"I loved it. I love mixing it up like that," McCain said after the speech to a Democratic-leaning crowd of several hundred.

3. McCain "straight talks" to please whatever audience he's trying to impress
This guy is one of the biggest frauds in politics, in my opinion. I have never trusted or believed him. He has always worked waaaaaaaay too hard at presenting himself as the straight talking maverick.

6. So much for the "Reagan Democrats" Who does McCain think will vote for him
McCain is cavorting with Falwell, endorsing South Dakotas primitive position on abortion, and kissing * behind even worse than at the convention. Does he think the whole country is composed of idiots?

People no longer get their brains washed by MSM nightly, Corporate Media is dying quickly.

They rely on the web, their friends, and other sources.

They KNOW what McCain's doing. We don't need any hero's. We need competence.

But the irony is that the fundamentalist right will never trust McCain.

Too bad, he could have endorsed "my good friend John Kerry." But he didn't. Assigned to the dust
bin of history.

7. good for the unions
These people live in some kind of cocoon, they need to know how the people feel.

If it hurts them to see they are doing what people do not want them to do ............. too bad.
