General problems with the forums

I'm new here, so please feel free to point me to solutions.

I've noticed several things:

1) When a post is deleted by a moderator its *gone*. There's no record that I can find of what was posted (by me) that was deleted. This would make it difficult to contest such things (not that I have any problems so far in that regard.)

2) There doesn't seem to be a record of personal mail to other members. Did I overlook it?

3) Finding recent posts is a bother. Even with "marking" it seems necessary to look through the entire list, find posts that are a different color and access them individually. That doesn't seem optimal.

Am I missing lots of things?

8. I was shocked when I replied to a post that subsequently got deleted

my response, which I don't think was inflammatory, was also deleted and I had no record of what I'd written. As I say, not an issue currently, but I'd like to know if I should keep local records of what I write so that it all doesn't go down the memory hole.

9. Sometimes, whole subthreads are deleted

It doesn't mean the people who respond to the post are violating any rules. It's just that some posts are getting a little too "controversial".

For example, this happens to 9/11 posts or Israel/Palestine posts all the time. You have to keep some discussions in the right forums or else you'll be deleted.

Sometimes, subjects are getting too gross or too morbid (in a sick way).

You'll pick up on it, I'm sure.

If you're really concerned about your own posts, just ask your moderator. They're all unpaid voluteers and make the odd mistake. You can talk to them.

10. I have no problem with the message being deleted from the forum,

I was just surprised that there was no record anywhere (e.g. My DU) of what I'd written. Now that I know that my work can be arbitrarily destroyed, I'll take better care of it.

Any help on deleted posts or recent posts by others? (I wish there was a Newbie forum for this. I did check the FAQs but no luck. I hate clogging up GD with this stuff.)

14. Unfortunately, without a star or someone with one searching for

you, then going through the lists of posts are the only way to find them.

I might suggest that until you get a star, you can click the link at the bottom of any post that you would like to find later that says "permalink". That will bring up a link that you can then save in your browser favorites for retreival later.

I do that sometimes even now with my star!

I'm sure the postal service will come through eventually and all my problems will be a thing of the past. (Except The Administration and incipient fascism, and Theocracy in the U.S, and stuff.)
