Conservative suburb says bring troops home!
Whitefish Bay, an upper-middle-class suburb of Milwaukee, gave Kerry 50.24% of its votes in 2004, and that was the first time it had voted Democratic since the 19th century.

Tonight it voted 54 to 46% in favor of this resolution:

Should the U.S. now begin withdrawing troops from Iraq and continue steady withdrawals until all our troops are home?

Thanks to the good folks of Whitefish Bay who are now seeing the truth. And thanks to the committee who braved the cold to get 1,000 signatures on the petition and then delivered a copy of a magnificent persuasive leaflet to every home in the village.

1. The fact that a conservative (historically) white suburb...
gave Kerry a majority (small though it is) is big news in itself.

7. The more liberal suburb next to Whitefish Bay
Shorewood, voted 70 to 30% on their referendum, which was phrased this way:

Should the United States provide a timeline for achieving goals in Iraq and set a target date of Dec. 31 for the withdrawal of all troops in Iraq?

There were about 30 other places voting on referenda today in Wisconsin. I'll try to put up more results if I see them.

9. See this site for results in all 32 Wisconsin elections
http://www.wnpj.org/files/4-4-results.html

Of 32 municipalities, only 7 voted no. (Besides Madison and Shorewood, the rest are mostly from the rural, red parts of the state.)

Taking all votes from all localities together, the results were 61% yes, 39% no.

4. I like that 50.24% for Kerry-Edwards and I love the 54% in favor
of bringing U.S. soldiers back home.

I hope every beauty shop and store checkout line in Whitefish tomorrow is buzzing with the outcome of tis resolution.

6. Yes. Hi to ya, rodeodance. I guess I'd rather it was 94% in favor
but I'll settle for a win just the same.

Hope all's well your way.
