2. All other threads say that he is a Republican...
He's the deputy press secretary for Homeland Security.

I assume that's an appointed position. Another one of Junior's gems.

Maybe Libby, Delay and this new pedophile can all share a cell and discuss old times and
reminisce about how they almost implemented Fascism.

Rot...ye scurvy bastards!

6. He's a career civil-servant....
...according to hubby. But, he heard this from the corp-whores, so it may already be being spun. I would think if they could find a d anywhere to put after his name it would have been done asap.

3. Hard core wingnut from which side of the aisle?
There are right- and left-wingnuts. :eyes:

Why assume one way or the other? It's equally disgusting. It is not worse if he is a Republican. It is not worse if he is a Democrat.

Party means NOTHING. Abuse means EVERYTHING. Hypocrisy is a MYTH when it leaves living, hurting victims/survivors ignored.

7. The republican party's defined policy's...
are of sexual repression. Do you not see the link between sexual repression, and sexual deviants? Are you familiar with the cycle of abuse? That these behaviors are no mystery, but have a clear cause, and effect? As a survivor myself, the party of 'dirty little secrets', is second only to the Catholic Church, in its degree of hypocracy.

11. Being a survivor, yes, I am WELL acquainted with the cycle, thank you
very much. Don't speak to me like I'm ignorant, please. I would have said nothing if I knew nothing about the subject.

I say again: hypocrisy is NOT the point. PARTY is not the point. ABUSE is the point.

To turn this into a discussion about the so-called "party of are sexually repression" is idiocy. And again I say, to make a sexual abuse debate about which political party contains more abusers can deny victims and survivors, individually, of their ability to recover fully. It's no longer about them -- it's about another cynical power grab and it makes me want to vomit.

For recovery to begin, and even the tiniest seed of the possibility of healing and maybe even forgiveness to come about, focus must never be removed from recovery. Arrest and prosecution are part of that, hopefully (they weren't in my case), but to bring the political affiliation of a child molester into the case -- ridiculous.

My molesters, all three, were Democrats -- am I supposed to vote Republican in anger and revenge?

13. Excuse Me...But If a Political Party Advocates...
the very behaviors that spawn abuse....that IS the issue. My abusers...I have no idea if or how they vote...However...I do know...that the behaviors they learned were taught to them. There is no winner in this game, the abusers are victims of the same fucking society. And preaching hate, abuse, and any other inflamatory issue to divide and conquer is a POLITICAL PLOY. The political climate that shapes society is the root cause of social ills. Your supposed to vote for the greater good....for a better society....for equality...for a place where families can be nurtured, so that each one of us lives up to our full potential. Jeebus...I can't believe this...

15. you are missing the point, abusers are not limited by political
affiliation, they come from all backgrounds, income brackets and creeds. The only generalisation that holds is fewer women are abusive sexually. Other than that there is NO CORRELATION AT ALL.

18. No you just don't get the point...
Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 09:12 PM by stillcool47
which is....that a society creates it's own ills. The ability to teach, nurture, arrange safety, and create well-being, are functions which political policy's affect in any given society. What we as children learn, is what we as adults teach...unless something interupts and changes that process. To say that politics has no correlation to society is quite the statement. Understand I am speaking of the principles, and policy's...of party politics...not the personalities. Actually, I don't care what you think.

17. I completely understand your anger. Believe me, I do.
Keep writing about it. For me it was one of the best ways to recover.

I do see how politics are intertwined with this, and I do see how the hypocrisy continues the cycle.

Sex has played a hand in politics (and vise versa) forever. I believe that only in the last few decades does the average Joe have an opinion on this -- because Average Joe didn't want to know about this kind of crap going on. Now Average Joes have CNN chips implanted in their eyes. They're addicted to the sensationalist media and can't get enough of the dirt. And the cynicism, the politics, and all that media-created intertwined dirt blinds them to who really requires the attention:

Us victims. Us survivors.

I don't mean to inflame you. Like you, I'm passionate. We can agree to disagree.

10. I agree that the abuse and the victim are tantamount in this story...
Edited on Tue Apr-04-06 10:50 PM by TwoSparkles
...and the focus should be on helping the victim and others like her.

However, it is impossible to ignore the very long list of Republicans who have been convicted of or intertwined in sex crimes, many involving children. The list of Republican sex scandals is a mile long, and it has been posted on DU many times.

I am concerned about the victim when I point out the hypocrisy in the Republican party, namely the faction that claims to be so religious and moral.

Did you know that 90 percent of pedophiles claim to be "very religious" people? They attend church regularly and are overly involved in church activities. Many pedophiles use religion to cement a heavily entrenched denial system, and also to cover their crimes. Being a Fundie Republican isn't just annoying--it can also be a lifestyle that enabled pedophiles. Many pedophiles create a parallel universe for themselves, in order to convince themselves that they are decent people. Church and involvement in conservative and religious activities prevents self awareness and squashes any chance that they will acknowledge their crimes and take responsibility.

So...I do think this stuff is relevant. Very relevant. You and I are on the same page, as far as the victims go. Their hurt should never be forgotten. However, we need to expose these hypocritical, evil people--who pretend to be something they're not--in order to stop the cycle of abuse and ultimately--help the victims.

14. TwoSparkles, I'm trying to reply to your post
but I got myself a little angry over another one. Can't tell you how much of what I'd typed out I had to change.

I do know that a great many pedophiles are religious. I know the stats, I know the repression, I know what it does. I am just not sure that it has to get the focus it does in the face of the greater problem.

Catholic priests abused their altar boys. Even ignoring the media frenzy: who gets the attention? The priests. They're shuffled off to Buffalo and are allowed to continue to "minister," literally and euphemistically, while the families of the children are hushed up however it takes.

Argh. I have to get off of this now for a while. I can see we're on the same page, I just don't know what else to say right now.
