3. In 1997, Grand Forks was flooded
when the levies broke (if I recall correctly). Then there was a fire downtown and many buildings were lost. Fargo also flooded but Grand Forks was much worse off.

There was also a lot of overland flooding and I remember a young mother across the river in MN died when it overtook her and her child. I believe her car got stuck and she had to get out and walk but the water was coming too fast. I also know a mother and daughter further west of the Red River who were driving in the early morning. Little did anyone know that flooding had literally taken out part of the road and their vehicle couldn't stop fast enough and they died.

2. oh no!
I saw a brief (very brief) news story on CNN World about it a few days ago. It really brings back memories. My parents live along the James River and I haven't heard anything from them about their place flooding this year (although we don't talk often since I moved overseas). Is it not bad along other ND rivers?

So sad.

4. We've got friends in Moorhead
across the river from Fargo. We'll give them a call tomorrow to see how they're doing.
