Does anyone know what ACTUALLY happened in the McKinney incident?
Like so often, people at DU and EVERYWHERE seem to be making judgments and throwing around theories about this McKinney incident without possessing the information most needed to accurately do so. People are talking about "racial profiling," of all things, and like mentioned on the Daily Show, the whole story is being passed off as Congresswoman McKinney being a "black female congresswoman." Huh? What the hell kind of explanation is that of what HAPPENED?

The main question in my mind here, while not being entirely dispositive of the case, is: What did the police officer do, physically and verbally, to Congresswoman McKinney, to provoke this, if anything?

Short of a hard punch, kick or shove from the police officer against McKinney, it seems to me that any serious punch, kick or shove from McKinney against the officer is entirely inappropriate, as it would be against anyone else. Due to this being a police officer, McKinney's respect for the person she punched/jabbed with her cell phone (I don't know what happened!!) should have been even higher than that usual standard.

McKinney ought to just get this resolved with the officer, personally, through whatever means, unless that officer really hit her hard. If he didn't viciously attack her, this level of media attention is not needed.

And it doesn't sound like the officer attacked her. I can't exactly SAY what happened, since no one is TALKING ABOUT what happened, but McKinney hasn't said that that's what the officer did.

Instead, she's said that she's a "black female congresswoman." That's a great way to fuel this fire without shedding any actual light on what happened.

3. Daily Show said that they didn't get video, for some reason.
?????

McKinney needs to say exactly what the police officer did to her, if she believes that what she did was justified.

4. Several things happened
There is a Congresswoman version, and there is a Cop version. They are the only two who really have the full picture.

There are also a thousand threads on this subject, with theories a-plenty!

Two people have a clue, and my guess is that neither one of them post here!

We'll know when there is some resolution. That's what the lawyers get paid to do.

On another forum a frequent several posters made comments as follows:

Here in Georgia (her rep state), we're all very sick of her...she's been doing this for years. She's been in fights with the capitol hill police before. Too much nonsense and not enough of the really important things. --

yep, she's known around DC as one of the whackier ones. THis is the 3rd Post article, the first 2 pointed out more of her whackiness, and how the Capitol Police keep her picture at the guard stations, so they won't "mistake her for the public" --

I'm thankfully not in her district, but she lost her seat to a calm and reasonable woman Denise Majette, who then decided after 2 years to run for the Senate thus just handing McKinney back her seat. She obviously has some supporters and I don't get it. But with this happening I'm sure Republicans will be vigorously trying to oust her. Some people are just addicted to attention. --

This lady is my Congresswoman ! I have been dealing with her for years, and yes, she is really a looney-bird.

Actually we defeated her in the elections prior to this most recent one, but the incumbent got the big head and tried to run for Senator and got crushed, leaving us with good 'ol Cynthia for yet another term.
Please pray for us! --

It's absolutely unbelievable. I'm in GA but not in her district. She is an absolute embarrassment. If there is any racism going on, it is McKinney being the racist. I remember the day after election day when it was announced that she had been re-elected. I was shocked. Wasn't anybody running against her? Big Bird could have beaten her I would have thought. --

Make of those comments what you will

8. As a white male Atlantan liberal, I'm proud of Cynthia
She spoke out against the Bush regime and the stupid war long before it was very popular. Much of the criticism of her is blatant racism.

12. that 'arm pinch' thing is a common 'bad cop' trick
the person being pinched pulls back in pain and gets pounced on for 'resisting arrest'. happens all the time.

9. 99 percent of those posting negative comments about McKinney were
never supporters of hers and many others are long time detractors who are just piling on.

14. Surely you jest. Facts would spoil the whole thing.
There will be no arrest, no trial, and no conviction. No tape will be produced and we may never even have the cop identified. The media frenzy IS the point, although why we had a feeding frenzy now is not clear to me. Was this opportunistic or arranged? That seems unclear still, although I lean towards arranged.
