What the hell is really going on?--thinking the unthinkable
This latest sex scandal regarding Brian Doyle and the DHS just emphasizes some things that have been buzzing under the surface for some time. Put some things together--Gannon/Guckert, the well-known but rarely-reported stories about Little Boots' proclivities, the odd--persona?--is that the word?--of Karl Rove...I remember when Gannongate had a little press traction, seeing Howard Kurtz and Wolfie on CNN...and looking as if they were going to wet themselves on national television just discussing it...remembering the classic connections between some types of fascism/militarism and bisexuality--the rumors about McCarthy and Cohn--recall Ernst Rohm and the pre-1934 SA...and add to this the still unresolved question as to why we REALLY went to war in Iraq...add the entire torture scandal, and why so many of these people seem to get off on it, and why their "explanations" of it--and the war itself--are such obvious lies, and that the media seems to largely acept these lies...
Again: why Iraq? All the explanations are BS, and many of them cancel each other out. Any complex historical event has numerous causes, and I don't intend to offer any monocausal explanation of it. But what if--what if--one major reason for it--at least from Little Boots' point of view--is simply as a way of getting his kicks? That he started the war for *thrills*? This seems unthinkable at first. But think how many inchoate images and pieces of evidence come together under this theory. Why does he persist, for instance, when everyone in the world knows it's a massive fuck-up? Why does he insist that the troops will be there until the next President takes over? Because he simply doesn't *want* to pull them out? Why do so many of these people seem to have no real human connection to the troops, the men and women suffering and dying?...is it because they don't *have* any real feelings for them, simply regarding them as so many video-game characters, there to suffer for the needs--the amusement--of the man who sent them there?
This theory sounds monstrous. Impossible. I don't even claim to "believe" it. It puts Bush, morally, on the level of Hitler or Caligula, an honest-to-goodness drooling perverted psychopath. But the longer this criminal regime goes on, the more I feel in my gut that this is the true nature of this man, these men...at least, a cabal of them...and history shows that human nature is totally capable of this explanation being true...do I need even quote Acton on absolute power...?
Again--this might not, isn't, the ONLY reason for the actions of this administration...and I'm not suggesting, really, this latest DHS scandal has any broader meaning. But haven't we all felt, all along, that there are things just beyond our understanding about these people, this regime? Of currents under the surface? I think this makes as much sense as anything else...

2. You seem to be equating bisexuals with child molesters
"It puts Bush, morally, on the level of Hitler or Caligula, an honest-to-goodness drooling perverted psychopath." What is the "it"? Rumors that Bush likes men? And from what depth of bigotry did you pull, "the classic connections between some types of fascism/militarism and bisexuality"?

16. I'm not condemning bisexuality, or any sexuality--
--in and of itself. I'm condemning fascism, and the use of violence as a sexual tool. And I do see parallels between what's happening here, and the psycho-sexual matrix we saw in the Third Reich, in McCarthy, and in the history of militarism in general...

4. Arkham House indeed!
But you may have hit on the truth. The last six years have been a maelstrom of blood, pain, misery, death, starvation, poisoned water, poisoned food, floods, lies, more lies, shrieking television, banditry, vote theft, vote suppression, and much more.

It should never be forgotten that our Resident as a child stuffed frogs with dynamite and threw them up in the air to watch them explode into red mist.

Nor should it be overlooked that the ONLY death sentence he commuted as governor was that of a serial killer who commited several hundred murders.

And it should be kept in mind that he joked about 2001 as a "very good year for Laura and me."

We have lived in the mouth of madness, indeed.

6. I've Never Seen It Mentioned in Writing,
but I have to agree with you that kicks had a lot to do with it. I don't think that's it quite as unusual a quality as you do; it's just that rarely does a leader with those tendencies preside over a country with the military capability of the US.

Hunter Thompson famously said that the time is coming when America will demand a degenerate as president. That may have happenned, but the country would have been much better off with a degenerate in the mold of the good doctor.

8. Child Molestation is akin to rape...
... it is not a crime of sex... It is a crime of power...

When these idiots get into power, they think that they can do anything to anyone they like, for they think they have the power, and that everyone is afraid of them...

That's what has gone on, and will continue to go on as long as these assholes keep getting elected...

They need to be exposed for the power hungry, power MAD rapists and pedophiles that they are...

9. The man is a sick piece of crap, and he surrounds himself with those
of a similar ilk.
The more power they have, the more it takes to satisfy their sick needs.
Nothing is too much to believe of this crew.

10. Can you imagine being born that rich?...
They start life with little familial contact, being raised by servants in a sterile world. Think of some of the really wealthy families, and their influence on society ...Scaife, Koch, Rockefeller, Grace, DuPont, etc.,. Makes you wonder what kind of experiences have colored their perception, and what their reality looks like.

13. Something about Hitler. Early in his rise to power he surrounded
himself with all kinds of misfits in his SS because he needed their numbers and loyalty. As he rose to power, he began to realize the liability of many of the more unsavory characters, which he conveniently either had disgraced or whom met an untimely death. If this regime is paralleling history since their ideals and actions seem to be similar, could this be what is happening? Perhaps now that they have gained complete power, they need to slough off the more radical and unsavory elements of their cabal.

14. Having experienced a little of the 'hard-ass' culture of middle 'murka in
my youth, I have a general theory about homophobia and politics.

In a liberal environment, like NYC or SF, say, a boy growing up who experiences some fleeting attraction to another male, or say a dream that involves men or something, he quite likely thinks it's a little 'weird', but doesn't really need to worry about it all that much.

In a very homophobic environment, like say much of Texas, it makes sense to me that such a boy might become quite panicked by such fleeting feelings and feel a need to act violent and viscious to prove, to himself and others, that he's 'okay'.

15. There are two very interesting books by german cultural critic Klaus
Theweleit, titled "Male Fantasies" that seems to explain a lot about the violence-and fear-and hate-mongers of this mis-administration:

as one reviewer said, they are both horrifying and edifying):

Male Fantasies, Volume 1: Women, Floods, Bodies, History (Theory and History of Literature, Volume 22)

Male Fantasies, Volume 2: Male Bodies--Psychoanalyzing the White Terror (Theory and History of Literature, Volume 23) (Paperback)

17. My kinda thread
Always warms me when I see a thread getting down to the nitty-gritty.

These guys are sick. There is something wrong in their heads. If they were just common street criminals - we'd see a few newspsper articles about their crimes, but holding the power they do - the question is: Who are they going to kill, torture and maim, next?

Keep spreading the news....
