A trip down the rabbit hole as Matthews interviews Delay -
Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 06:23 AM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
I saw it last night and just wanted to read the transcript to make sure that this interview was as bizarre as I thought it was.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12156468/

Here are just a few of Matthew's helpful, leading questions as he does his bit to demonize Dems for Delay:

Here is Matthews fomenting religious conflict (the "he" being quoted is a Baptist minister named Rick Scarborough)-

MATTHEWS: He said, “I believe the most damaging thing that Tom DeLay has done in his life is to take his faith seriously into public office, which made him a target for all those who despise the cause of Christ. God always does his best work right after a crucifixion.”
I mean, he says that you were brought down by your faith.

Matthews still trying to work that angle:

MATTHEWS: Do you believe if you were a secular politician who had never expressed his religious faith that you would have been less of a target to the Democrats?

Matthews protecting his President of "sunny nobility". Note the use of the words "go after" like Democrats are a pack of rabid terriers.

MATTHEWS:What would happen if Henry Waxman got the subpoena power in the Government Reform Committee? What would happen if John Conyers of Michigan got the subpoena power? Would they go after the president?

You really have to read the whole darn thing. But I recommend having some dramamine handy to counter the swirling sense of vertigo and nausea as you enter the bizarro world depicted in this interview. Nowhere does the appalling Chris Mathews ever even entertain the thought that DeLay's resignation might have been precipitated by DeLay's own actions! It's all just a horrible personal attack orchestrated by Godless Democrats who will bring back partial birth abortions and then "go after" the President. My only surprise was that somehow C.M did not manage to interject his own personal favorite topic of gay marriage.

1. It was a verbal BLOW job, and Matthews has the GALL to criticize Clinton!
At least Clinton did his naughty business with the door closed, and not on national television....

2. During the McCarthy era, Mathews would be holding McCarthy's hat
for him while he ran his witch hunt.

3. Chris, many of us question a man's faith - when he directs policies
that harm others health and well-being - when his actions are so often out of accordance with the teachings of that faith. Shows that you, too, Mr. Matthews are perhaps also a man of questionable faith - not questioning you have faith - just questioning the fidelty of that faith to the Church's teachings per the teachings of Christ.

4. From Huffington - DeLay's Absurd Religious Posturing

I hadn't read this when I did the OP, but some nice further insight on this whole position of DeLay's. It also certainly shows that Matthews got the memo and was doing his bit to further DeLays image as a victim of religious persecution.

6. If only they were lower.
Chris Matthews is not a journalist- primarily because of his prediliction to make pronouncements about "everyone agrees" "average Amurricans" etc. etc. where he insists on putting what must be his personal opinions "everyone likes the guy" kind of stuff into his so-called interviewing.

11. Matthews is on a commission plan. General Electric pays for this.
They obviously have a bonus system over there, the more outrageous right wing remarks the MSNBC hosts make the more bonus money they receive. Matthews is the penultimate suck up. He carries the water for GE and their right wing agenda. The sad thing is that GE is a fine company, they've just got this nut case political agenda that they're shoving down their viewers throat.

I saw the interview. Matthews did everything but go down on the guy. It was the worst journalism I've seen in decades. He should be ashamed but he has no shame.

Recommended.

13. Maybe we should introduce Tweety
to Juanita's website. Here's what she had to say as an introduction to the Hammer about this time last year:

Since Tom DeLay is getting so much national attention, we at The World’s Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc., the Official Beauty Supplier for the 22nd Congressional District, feel the need to introduce the rest of the country to our Congressvarmint.

First off, he ain’t always been like this. No, seriously, he wasn’t always Captain Testimony for the Steeple People. Why Honey, back in his Texas Legislature days, Tom DeLay was everybody’s best friend, including Jose Cuervo and some little Austin waitresses we know.

I have a theory called Juanita’s Theory of Why You Should Run Away Fast From People Who Keep Saying “Jeeesus” Too Much. I have found that people who become religious fanatics like Tom are either (1) trying to hide something really nasty that they’re doing when nobody’s looking, (2) got something in their past to be really horribly ashamed of, or (3) are trying to make enough money to land on Boardwalk with three hotels and still have a gazillon dollars left. Tom, bless his heart, has got a bad case of all three, plus a whole mess of horrific karma and ju-ju on the side.

The rest of it is here. If the talking heads on TV would only bother to do a little research to earn those big salaries they draw, they'd see there's a big difference between what Tom says and what Tom does.
