A little background...

I've been going through a rough spot, but was delighted to be able to contribute (albeit in a very modest way) to the Roses for Helen campaign.

My dear mother, the recipient of excited emails from me in anticipation of Helen's day, also made a contribution.

Unbeknownst to me, she also ordered two dozen roses from OrganicBouquet to be delivered to me the next day.

They are amazingly beautiful, and I shared them with my mother, my grandmother, and my daughter.



Here is the email from OrganicBouquet.com, and you can tell that they were very pleased to have been a part of Helderheid's wonderful plan to honor Helen Thomas (note the exclamation points :)):

My daughter proudly told me about the Organic Bouquet roses she and others sent to Helen Thomas to thank her for speaking out in a press conference.
The pictures of Helen and her 100 dozen roses were breathtaking, so I

16. The power of positive feedback

should never be underestimated.

I'm glad to see this company getting some good business (and tying it to their delivery of Helen's roses lets them know we're pleased by their work); I'd never heard of them before and the flowers are amazing.

I wish I could remember who suggested using OrganicBouquet initially; I'll have to go back and look them up.

8. I told my supervisor about Organic Bouquet ...

We teach a class in environmental science and sustainability. After working for the UN in Africa for a couple of years, he's become very concerned about the cash-crop flower industry in Kenya, and the social/environmental damage it's causing.

Before every class, he talks about a company which is trying to do things right, as a way to illustrate that there are ways to approach these problems. We've done ethical investing, sustainable homebuilders, and greenhouse gas offsetting. He was thrilled to hear about Organic Bouquet (and the fact that it's organized and established enough to be able to pull off the "Flowers for Helen" event).

Happily, I managed to get in on the roses for Helen project. It was such a joyful effort. Helderheid did such a great job, Organic Bouquet was great... and HELEN, of course!

NOW your mother!!! Well, I couldn't be outdone, could I? I just ordered 20 tulips from Organic Bouquet for my daughter.
