Positive republican values?
C'mon y'all. We can't be so narcisitic to believe that the 'liberal' way is the "ONLY" right way.
Series folks.........list some thing positive about the 'opposition':
Maybe we could blend our strengths and form a more perfect union.

1. Well.....
I'll say that pretty much every Rep I know doesn't fit the normal stereotype among the left of being a millionaire or a redneck or anything like that. I know Reps/cons in academia, science, big business, small business and everything in between.

I'm impressed with how much consideration most of them give their intellectual roots...I'd love to see more of that on the left.

I've heard many good conservative arguments against the war and the Patriot Act (not that many in Congress adopt them).

Everything they believe in is a negative. They are for nothing.

3. My issues are more with their "methodology"
To support family values does NOT require demonizing other groups
To support the economy does NOT require giving to the rich and taking from the poor
To support national security does NOT include invading other countries under false pretenses

Get my drift?

5. There is nothing positive about the opposition at this point...
There might have been in the past but since the fundy whackjobs took over...nope. Anything the current rethugs do well are things I don't want the Democrats to become good at. I don't want us to become good at using wedge issues to divide people. I don't want us to become good at playing on people's fears. I don't want us to become good at demagoguery.

8. Of course I believe it is the only "right way"...
To believe otherwise would be to undermine the entire notion. What's more, I am convinced that the Republican path leads to the eventual destruction of humanity and indeed, most of what is precious and unique on the entire planet. Sorry, I'm not going to play.

9. Well, Ike had it right on the military-industrial complex
Goldwater had a conscience. Rockefeller-Ford represented a wing that no longer exists. Today, there are no GOP values, except raw power, wealth and sadly, pure hate. There once was a time of GOP honor. It no longer exists, as they have turned their party over to Rush Limbaugh.

10. Liberal vs conservative-- not republican...
Republicans can be liberals just as Dems can be conservatives.

Parties have platforms, philosophies have ideals.

The party in power is not the party of Lincoln.

19. For sure. There's every reason to believe the plates will shift again
at some point one coalition of voters will turn on the Dems or Goopers, and in a few decades or so we'll be back to the point where the Goopers have the progressives and the Dems have the dumbshit pro-slavery folks, like in the good ol' days.

Well, it could happen.

38. Small government.
It doesn't need to be a gargantuan bureaucratic monster to do its job correctly, completely and well. However, outsourcing is no more the correct answer than adding an entire redundant and dysfunctional department to cure problems with departmental redundancy and dysfunction.

39. But...but..but
Y'all is spelled y'all (google y'all).

The reason for my posting this initially, as an infrequent poster/everyday reader, it feels as though there is an "If yer not one of us, yer not one of us" smoke that permeates the platform on which we stand and clouds clear vision of a united future and this troubles me. So I was just trying to inject some positivness into the mix.
Or is united an impossibility.
A seceded Ecotopian separate entity?

it hink this period of repug power in three branches of govt and their in you face evidence of breaking procedure and all to purposely exclude the opposition power leaves us to say, the repugs are not capable of it. i think the repugs have to hold ownership in this and until they grow up and see united it really doesnt matter. the repugs have the attitude of exclusion. the dems are much more inclusive

47. Most republicans are like most Christians...
...all dogma and no practice. Thus, many who currently identify with that party simply need to feel like it's time to switch teams, and there's evidence that this is starting to happen. The truth is that current republican policy only benefits the richest of us, and they are less than 2% of the entire American population. As the economic tidal wave they've created with record spending and record tax cuts during "wartime" crashes on Middle America (which it's already doing), most of the people who've been associated with the republican party stay only to avoid the shame of admitting they were duped and wrong. Like a junkie, America often has to hit bottom to affect real change. We're almost there.
