3. Isn't this poll entirely meaningless?
Like most CNN polls, the terms are so poorly defined that the poll is meaningless. How do they define "improve working conditions" and "raise wages"? Would I pay $100 a year more if workers only got a 10 cents per hour raise? No. Would I pay that much if it meant they would make $15 an hour with health care benefits? Definitely.

-SM, who would be curious to see how many Americans would sign up to do manual agricultural labor for $15/hr plus health care...

10. They were once under Cesar Chavez. UFA
United Farm Workers

Before he got the union going, everyone was saying know one would be able to afford perishables. Mr. Chavez proved them wrong.

18. The poll was in response to a report that revealed $10 a year more
to our food bill would raise wages to a decent standard.

As Dobbs said--not high enough, but survivable.

Sometimes the polls relate so directly to a story that it doesn't make a whole lot of sense out of context.

4. Lou, post the question "Should CEOs continue to receive skyrocketing...
... salaries, while workers can barely feed their families w/disgracefully low wages (kept low so that the CEO's salaries can continue to skyrocket)?"

6. It is actually only $10 a year per consumer that would be enough
to raise the standard of living in workers enough to at least raise wages out of the "slave" category.

Seems like it would be within our grasp to turn things around pretty quickly. we'd have to demand it from lawmakers, forcing companies to do the right thing with laws.

Lou is disgusted with corporate abuse of farm workers.

And all the folks who pretend they watch the show, or are paid/unpaid detractors of Dobbs because he slams BushCo, or harbor paranoid fantasies about Dobbs' agenda, are working against justice and resolution in the whole situation, IMO.

Unions would help.

8. The fruits & veggies in the grocery store are terrible. The fruit isn't
ripe and tastes like it. The veggies are old as the hills - for a veggie. I can't eat the stuff. I hate unripe fruit and when I take it home to ripen, it rots first. I'd give $100 a year just to have edible food in a grocery store. I even got a t-bone steak once that had no taste.

Which is why I bought a lot of land in Florida to grow my of fruits and veggies.

14. When responding to an anonymous poll anyway.....
now if Ethyl comes home from the store and tells Herb that lettuce went up 25 cents a head they'd be writing their congress-critter about wanting to cut all the social programs for those lazy immigrant farm workers. This is a "feel good" poll, designed to make people feel all noble, warm and fuzzy. In real life they'd be having a shit-fit.

15. It would be a lot more than any of those
But we pay it in taxes anyways when we pay for the health care for illegals, their schooling, etc. We may as well pay it straight to the Americans instead of wasting it on felons.

17. This poll is bullshit... look at the dairy industry...
... How much are all of you paying for milk now, upwards of $3.00 a gallon or more??? And how much more are the dairy farmers making???

They don't make squat...

Dairy farms close every day because they can't make a living at it.. The advertisers and the middle men make all the money... So the bottom line is... the farm workers won't get dick, or will get the dick, depending on your point of view, no matter how much more we are willing to pay for the produce.
