McAfee acquires SiteAdvisor...kiss another free, great product buh-bye.
What a frigging SHAME. SiteAdvisor is one of the greatest plugins available for Firefox...works in I.E. too. Now McAfee can charge a premium for it and load it up with CPU-sucking bloatware and nag screens for its other products.

McAfee acquires SiteAdvisor
Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal - 9:12 AM PDT Wednesday

McAfee Inc. said Wednesday it has acquired SiteAdvisor Inc. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Santa Clara-based McAfee (NYSE:MFE) said SiteAdvisor was the first company to test and rate, on an ongoing basis, nearly every site on the Internet. The company identifies potentially dangerous Web sites that contain spyware, online scams, and other problems.

SiteAdvisor, which is based in Boston, was founded in April 2005 by a group of engineers. Its investors include Bessemer Venture Partners, which has an office in Menlo Park, and Cambridge, Mass.-based General Catalyst Partners.

2. I don't think it's offered on the Firefox plugins page...
...you have to get it from the publisher.

Here is the link on CNET, with a review and download link. Even though it is flagged as "BETA," I have used it and it is very stable...no problems whatsoever:

Our automated testers continually patrol the Web to browse sites, download files, and sign-up for things with e-mail addresses. As you search, browse, download or register online, SiteAdvisor's safety ratings help you stay safe and in control.
