Does all this corruption end up strengthening the Republicans?
Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 07:19 PM by Patsy Stone
After reading this post by patcox2 (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x839874) I wanted to post some things I've been wondering about for a few weeks now.

Is it possible that all of this ends up forging a stronger Republican Party? Does this mean that the old Republicans will return to power? Does this mean that a kinder, gentler Republican Party will emerge in, say, 2010?

I haven't been worried about * for a while. I mean, of course I'm worried about him, but I haven't been worried about his influence on 2006 for months. I'm worried about after *. With Republicans of all stripes running in the other direction and the small tent bursting with people trying to get away, will they eventually emerge as a party with no Rove, no Mehlman, no NeoCons in the forefront? Put back to the lunatic fringe along with the fundies where they belong? Could they pose a threat because they were more homogeneous to begin with, thus, the schism isn't that wide? Could this attract enough Independents and conservative Democrats (in a Reagan kinda way) to make them unstoppable in the future?

I'm not in any way ignoring election theft; these questions are philosophical.

Anyone?

1. nope
The GOP will never be able to tame the theocons. They have control of the party, and won't let the old guard take it back (even if the old guard wanted to do it- and open question in my book).
I think that we are much more likely to see an all-out civil war in the GOP.

I can't wait.

2. I think that (provided there is no stolen election)
they'll take their marbles and golden parachutes and fade back into the woodwork. Still there, but now that they have so many contracts and so many pieces of favorable legislation, they may just retire to undermine the world and count their money in the countryside.

As for a civil war (which I don't doubt will happen and also can't wait to watch) where will they go? I think the NeoCons will form the Imperial Empire Party and the rest will reorganize.

4. Maybe if they run from their Party they will give some thought to things
What does the Republican Party stand for and why should anyone join? What does the Democratic Party stand for and why should anyone join? All I could ever ask is that people really give it some thought. It is possible that a third party could be formed somewhere in the middle. Disenfranchised Republicans and DLC type Democrats. I hope not because I want a very Liberal Government that looks after the Health and Welfare of it's citizens. If our people are healthy and strong then our country will be healthy and strong. Common Sense.

5. Only if they steal the elections, will they get back into power.
