just read the title and not the content. The title was designed to be inflammatory and hopefully make one think.

Our Mods here have a rough job trying to please us all and do the best they can. I certainly understand the reason they "disappeared" the original thread.


However, I felt the message was important and wanted a few more to read it, hence this post.

DU is one of the greatest communities around for liberal thinkers and I have to respect and try to understand all their reasonings. I am proud to be a member.

Sometimes we disagree. That's good, but as long as it is their website, I have to bow to their judgment as to what they want here.

I didn't catch your post before it got deleted, but just read it though your link. I certainly wasn't offended. I'm white, I live in her district, voted for her, haven't met her. I'm getting really disgusted by the extreme "rush to judgement" on either side by DU'ers. The "hysteria" is very upsetting to me. I think the whole thing has been blown way out of proportion.
I wasn't there when it happened, I didn't see what happened, therefore, I don't know what really happened. Each person can view a situation through different eyes.
Don't we have more important things to worry about in the great scheme of things?
I appreciate your insight and thoughts.

She didn't wear a badge, ignored the cops shouts for her to stop, proceed to hit the cop after he restrained her, then when all seemed far more settled she held to melodramatic press conferences and played a full deck of racist cards on national tv, and has done so now on interview after interview after interview, all the while never giving any details and just sitting there evading questions and having this ridiculous look on her face. The whole farce this has all become is ridiculous. She should've just sincerely apologized to begin with and laid low. Instead she chose to start whoring for the cameras and making this story 20 times bigger than it needed to be. For the act of hitting, striking, poking, whatgoddamnever the cop, and for how she has handled the aftermath with the drama, I find her to be in the wrong.

Sometimes I wonder what it will need to take? Perhaps eliminating the Draft 40 years ago was the key to creating this apathy that is plaguing our country today on certain fundamental principles that go to their own Rights and Freedoms - that we are supposedly engaged in defending vis a vis militarism and wars.

If the Draft had been in effect these past four years, we'd see the level of student uprisings all over the country that would match the recent numbers and outcry within the immigrant community. It would match the level of anti-war demonstrations in terms of numbers and frequency during the Viet Nam era - AND it would reveal the viciousness of the Police State, the response to Cynthia McKinney would be an outpouring of solidarity and support.

instead we have these reactions that can only be delivered by the truly privileged class - and it is wholly sickening to witness in words right here on DU.

So it is the occasion when i see the wisdom in words that you have posited that lift me up and gives me hope, that one day we shall overcome.

I think many are younger than you and I and do not remember the 60's at the end of Hoover's rule. I was on his list. I agree with you that if the MC youth faced Iraq rather than the volunteers and Immigrant soldiers, that things would be quite different.

We do have a large "privileged class" here. Hopefully, discussions like this can tell them something.

I'm an older guy. I've seen a lot. Throughout my years I have seen a great deal more abuse of authority, than good coming from it. On a jury I'd be a prosecutor's nightmare. I was a thorn in the side of management (now retired). And I have never viewed the police as my friend. It's who I am and how I think - all based on life experiences. I, too, have seen a growing tendency to accept authority without question in our society. It's a dangerous trend, IMO, and I'm kicking and recommending this thread because Tom Yossarian Joad speaks to the issue in a blunt, gripping, and eloquent manner.
