Keith Olbermann devotes segment to McKinney story: Who else will?
Apparently even Keith has to pander to what may be the biggest "much ado about nothing" story I have seen in recent years. But, he has to fill space, now that the war in Iraq is over, the budget is balanced, the Katrina victims are settled, and all dishonest politicians have been cashiered from DC. Thanks, Keith. Formerly my hero.

17. all a distraction
I honestly could care less. The spin on this story has given it 100 times the life it deserves. I wish to expunge ARUBA and MCKINNEY INCIDENT from the public record so we can get on to real issues!

2. He's not the show's producer. Gotta keep in mind this is TV
with advertisers.

3. I saw it, ~ I felt sorry for Keith on that one

but it seems to be getting more press than Saddam's trial, a nasty sex crazed Homeland SECURITY big wig and where oh where is Aruba Girl.

4. I hope you cut him some slack; after all, he didn't spend
45 minutes on it, like CNN did. :eyes:
Mentioning the pervs in DHS and DeLay's/repigs continuing problems assuaged my anger. :hi:

5. Let Me Guess, He's A Freeper Now Too? LOL
She turned this into the story that it is with her press conferences and accusations. But it is now a story, and it is on all of the networks. Of course he's going to cover the fact that a member of congress may be indicted by a grand jury that will convene tomorrow. Blaming K.O. for it is nuts.

The double standard permeating the halls of DU right now from some posters is disturbing.

9. Did you see the LA Times three-part story on wounded in Iraq?
Not sure where the hypocrisy charge is coming from. Is the McKinney story a legit story? Yes. Is it overkill by a factor of about 1,000? I think so. Since 2003, I have wondered when the media was going to talk about the thousands horribly wounded in Iraq. Now the LA Times has done something about it. Moving. Important. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/wounded/la-na-wounded-series,0,936394.special.
I would settle for 1/10th - 1/50th - the coverage of the LA Times series that the McKinney story has gotten. I don't blame KO for it. I just hold him to a higher standard.

Very well said and I appreciate you standing behind your point and clarifying. In that context I can't disagree and understand completely where you are coming from. My apologies for the debate. :)

Well, maybe not go that far. Although that whole evolution thing sure is a conversation starter. . .http://www.answersingenesis.org/docs/2.asp.

19. It's not an apt comparison. If Whittington didn't press charges, it's over
Sorry it has to be that way, but there's absolutely nothing that can be done about it.

27. And what was Clinton's testimony in the Jones case?.....
...How about Jones' testimony where she claimed to be with Clinton in the hotel on a certain day, when he was totally booked up in the Governor's Mansion? There is no doubt that Clinton was exactly where he said he was on that day...why do you insist on believing her Scaife-funded Jones version of events?

Read "Hunting of the President" by Lyons and Conason. They compiled an absolutely damning pile of evidence against the entire Arkansas Project, to include the Paula Jones caper.

Edited to add: I've read it, seen the movie, bought the T-shirt, the whole nine yards. But I was trying to point out that nothing happened that Lewinsky could press charges for.

15. Did you ever stop to think that KO has to report those stories....
...that are negative towards Democrats to be able to maintain his appearance of objectivity?

If he always slammed GOPers, his credibility among those in the middle and on the right would be close to zero. He would be viewed by those people in much the same way that we view Rush, Hannity, and O'Reilly.

21. Sheesh. His top story was about this DHS perv,
and anyone is upset because he even COVERED McKinney (after taking days to do so)? Sorry but I think there are things more worth getting upset about.

To act as if he never covers anything important, simply because he covered a story you wish he hadn't, seems a bit extreme.

30. That's a straw man argument
I have never "act(ed)as if he never covers anything important." That's a straw man argument. Perhaps my response in post #9 will serve as sufficient clarification.

25. Well, I'll make a confession..
I never understood the incredible love that a lot of folks here have for KO. I like him just fine, I think he obviously leans left and is willing to go out on limbs and ask questions that others will not. But a lot of his show is also irreverent, humorous or just plain fluff. And he will climb on board media frenzies when they are big enough, and even repeat talking points that infuriate me, at times, too. As I said, I like him fine, but I don't go out of my way to watch his show. He isn't Edward R. Murrow or something.

26. Why I watch him: he told more truth in 5 minutes tonight than
CNN did in the first 45 minutes an hour earlier. CNN was all about McKinney, KO did a blurb, but covered a lot more.
I turned my dad on to KO, and he relates; he's figured out that even the 'librul media' isn't so much anymore, or at this point.
Every channel excelled in an American travesty, Katrina, before they were 'informed' about what stories to tell imo.

29. I disagree. Obviously.
To each his own, but I deeply appreciate someone who can both tell me the truth and entertain me with silliness once in a while. Everyone needs a little of it...or at least most people do.

I haven't seen him climb on board with media frenzies. Sure, he will cover a story when it reaches critical mass, but when he does, he asks the questions others will not, as you said. That makes a difference. As for "repeating talking points"--I've never seen him do it outside of an attempt to play devil's advocate.

Edward R. Murrow? He did "Person to Person." Please, let's not lionize him as a person who never did fluff. He knew what price he had to pay to spend most of his time doing what he wanted to do most. As far as I'm concerned, KO's the closest we have to that now.
