Delay Remarks on Mckinney; Sound Racist; Not Saying She Isn't Guilty

(Note: This is not about Rep. McKinney and whether or not she is guilty, this is specifically about Rep. Delay.)
Tom Delay's remark on Cynthia McKinney; From a CNN Transcript playing another sources TV interview with Delay;

Specific remarks from CNN transcript:
"In a TV interview, DeLay said, 'She has a long history of racism. Everything is racism with her. This is incredible arrogance that sometimes hits these members of Congress, but especially Cynthia McKinney.'"

Just who exactly are "these members of Congress"? Does it sound a little racist to you? Did he mean Democrats, but why would Democrats who are also made up of whites talk about racial profiling and use that as a defense? I think he means black Democrats. Maybe it isn't racist, but it kinda sounds bad. What do you all think?

She may be racist, but that doesn't mean you can do it. Like I said this isn't about Rep. McKinney in particular.

thought when I read the article, just what did Delay mean by "these members of Congress"? Democrats or black members of Congress from both parties oh wait I forgot there aren't any black repukes in Congress

4. McKinney may well have been "targeted" by the Republicans.

But, a person in her position should have known that she was a probable target for "dirty tricks".
I don't know exactly what she did. I do know what she didn't do. (1) She didn't wear her ID badge and (2) She didn't respond to the policeman in the best way to avoid hurting herself and the Party.

I have heard her comments to the press. In my opinion, she has allowed her anger to cause her to project a very angry image. She has chosen to take her stand over the entry gate incident. It is a no win situation for her and the Democratic Party. If she never serves a day in jail or is never fined, she will have lost anyway. They put out the "hook" and she "took the bait". Too bad, as she was doing some fine work in the House of Representatives. Every minute that the media spends covering this unimportant nonsense, is a minute that might have been covering more of the Republican scandals and the ineptness of the Bush administration. And who knows, the Pubs might even be able to escalate this up to the level of kicking her out of Congress.

For all of you on DU that think she had every right to go without her pass and allow herself to get embroiled in a senseless incident, I suggest that you are overlooking the broader needs of the Democratic Party as it tries to move it's image forward for the 2006 elections. She has not done anything to help the cause of racial discrimination. Rosa Parks helped by her dignified refusal to give a white man her seat. When Cynthia McKinney gripes that she is tired of the fact that she has to be authorized by white people to gain admission to the White House, she is saying something that she has a right to say but, at the same time, is clearly showing the level of anger about the situation, understandable, but poor strategy.

5. You think DeLay would have been treated that way?

Mr. Corruption himself was caught some time ago smoking a cigar in a Texas restaurant under state no smoking laws. When called on it by a waitress, he sneered at her "Hey, I AM the law." Given this, how do you think Tommy would have been treated for walking past a checkpoint without his little lapel pin?

The 800 lb. gorilla in the room is that this IS a race tinged issue. And few people, including so called progressive democrats, want to address it. How shameful can you get.

7. Well,

I don't think she handled it very well. If it was racism, she hurt herself when she hit the cop. (That sounds like a Bushism doesn't it, my God the stupid is contagious.) Even if she just hit the cop on accident, she should have apologized. I know if I was in her place I would have done that immediately. Then I would start asking why I was stopped and if it was racism.

I mean, if this happened to a person who was not a Congresswoman, they would be on the floor and handcuffed then taken to jail.

She is also very selfish. Instead of being kind and handling the situation, she let her anger get the best of her, and this could damage all Democrats.

My brother was once mistaken by the Police for a suspect they were searching for in his neighborhood (emphasis on the "hood".) He was taken out of his Jeep, thrown on the ground and handcuffed, then the Police asked questions. He never hit a an officer.

I understand how that could happen (the officers being so aggressive.) Imagine if you're a cop and you see someone doing something suspicious or they look like a suspect, you don't know if they have a gun or not do you? People can always apologize later, but you can't always save someone if they have been shot.

I still think Tom Delay is a racist after hearing those comments.
