CBS: Why Katie and not Christiane Amanpour?
If they really wanted a hard hitting newsperson and were looking for a female, why not hire the real thing and not a little piece of fluff?

It insults me as a woman that Perky Katie will be representing women in news when real news pros like Amanpour are left behind. Amanpour is the equivalent of Peter Jennings (when he was a young foreign correspondant, hired as one of three anchors on World News Tonight back in the 70s.).

2. I agree with you
althought Christiane is probably too busy being a real journalist. I really can't picture her being content to sit at an anchor desk.

3. Anybody who says something nice about Christiane Amanpour
is A-Ok in my book.

Bless ya, Nikki Stone 1.

Christiane's tops.

My guess is that Amanpour is engaged as a field reporter and doesn't want to spend that much time in a studio in New York interviewing Hollywood actors and people with new recipes for macaroni salad.

14. Hi, FrenchieCat. Yep, she is. Probably the corporate Rethugs at GE
wouldn't go for a TODAY host married to a LIBRUL !

But god is that woman talented or what? I just think she's tops.

27. Dead right, Frenchie, as usual. . .
and I'll add that Christiane is too ethnic-looking whereas Perkyfluff is generically unidentifiable. . .kinda like one-size-fits-all. . .

could ya just hear all those dumbass viewers saying Christiane is one of those Aye-rabs!

Christiane's day will come though. . .she's fabulous...and well worth the wait!

4. They wanted a talking head, not a journalist
 You almost never see Christiane Amanpour in a studio, she's usually on location reporting. I wish the anchors were that dynamic.

12. Couric is bubble gum but Amanpour is chewing tobacco
itis not her forte and she would not test well.

Neither is particularly appealling.

Merideth Veira would have been abetter choice.

She has as much journalistic integrity as Couric.

She could jump rope as she reads the Teleprompter.

17. Katie Couric
I don't think Katie Couric will do a good job with the evening news. I think Diane Sawyer and Connie Chung were good. Serious and intelligent. I mean, if she starts with that cutsy little smile, who will take anything she says seriously.

20. Sent a message to CBS news about this
Told them we'd watched and enjoyed Schieffer over the last year, but that we wouldn't be watching once Katie takes over. Will watch Lehrer instead. E-mail them, folks. Let them know we're not happy. Heard that the folks at CBS news aren't happy either.

EEEWWWWWWW That's too much information so early!!!!!!:):):):)

This is the "PERSON" CBS thinks will give them some sense of credibility on it's evening news? :puke:

I'm glad Murrow is dead and doesn't have to see what's become of "journalism".

lolol - that's a good one.

They wanted a perky-ish blonde who doesn't mind showing her legs and can get words on a teleprompter correct 2 outta 3 times.

24. Not sure she'd be the best choice for a news anchor....
She's a rabid investigative reporter, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

She would make an exclellent Foreign Affairs chief in a major bureau, pehaps.

But I don't view anchors as powerful as they used to be. A word from Cronkite, phrased the right way, could elevate or destroy a career or political venture.

But at least it wasn't obvious, not blatantly in your face like today.

Plus, she's not cute an cuddly wike my widdle Katiekins....

30. Soccer Mom's and Nascar Dads just don't identify with Amanpour.
They want to turn it on and see Katie that they grew up with and that they saw every morning. It's the Demographics. Katie oozies sweetness and light and has great hair and teeth. She doesn't look like someone who would bunk in a transport carrier to go into "terra places." She looks like someone who could be in their car pool.

What better person to deliver the nightly news. After all..it isn't "news" anymore. It's INFOTAINMENT! And, needs sponsors who can reach their targeted audience. Amanpour doesn't look like she shops much...unless it's for fatigues.

It's all about "bidness" to use Bushies pronunciation.

33. And not only that but Christianne contributes to Sixty Minutes.
However, they don't want a journalist and real reporter because they are now presenting the news as infotainment, and it's light on the information with an emphasis on the entertainment.

Perky McSmiley fits the job to a "T".

37. Not dumb enough
Anchors reflect society..Katie is an airhead sellout that reports sensationalized news. Amanpour is the thinking person's reporter, a non-sellout, hard hitter, truth teller. Katie doesn't care about truth, just ego. Katie will report what the masses want to hear. It's the further dumbing down of America. In a different, smarter world Amanpour would be the obvious choice. She has more brains and bigger balls than any male reporter or anchor out there.
