13. You know, bliss_...
Someone, somewhere, decided to play this out as if it was a chess game.

Without the noise from the McKinney camp this issue would have withered and been blown clean from the vine.

This will not bode well for our cause.

Rove & Co will bang this drum for all that they can wring from it (pardon the sentence structure - the hour is somewhat late at my house and I am not getting any younger).

I wish this thing would just go away.

46. It's a distraction, goddammit!
You cannot lay your hands on a police officer.<--- see the PERIOD. Doesn't matter who you are or how recognized you think you are, she should not act like that. She needs to hold herself to a higher standard, and act accordingly as a public servant. The Repukes have blown this way out of proportion, jumping on this to shadow their own misdeeds. A repuke already said this is proof of Democrats disregard for security after 9/11. That spin made me nauseous but Mckinney is a liability to us if she doesn't start acting more professional in public.

America UNDER BUSH has a problem with Black Women, White Women, MUSLIMS, GAYS, Non Born Agains, Democrats, the poor and on and on.

The clock should have moved forward but it is ticking in the opposite direction.

12. Yes--this is true.
The truly sad thing is how few progressives can see this. It's also troubling that progressives don't seem to realize that the hatred card that this administration has played has opened latent fears within everyone.

Fear of losing jobs, fear of being left behind, fear of someone getting more than their fair share.

that doesn't look like them, think like them and have the kind of money that they have stolen.

They have no compassion bone in their bodies.

The sooner we realize that the better we will be, we are always trying to help them "see the light."

Let's face it, " the light is off and no one is home" for Republicans.

I forgot to say that in my previous post.

Does goclark speak her mind? I sure do!

Does Cynthia Mc Kinney speak her mind -- absolutely!

I see it as a virtue not a thorn.

50. Hillary Clinton was a bad decorator and housekeeper as first lady!!!
She choose "loud colors" for the White House!!!! The crime!!! That made several news shows that I've seen - and I avoid the worst news shows. What are we turning into? I remember Republicans complaining that Hillary wore pantsuits too often!! I see Lara Bush in pantsuits constantly - yet no one mentions her wardrobe. Tell me we don't have a double standard in this country???

41. This rings soooooo true...
My advisor in graduate school pulled me over to tell me that I needed to be a 'bit more reserved' in seminars -- I was taking too much time and being too emphatic. I listened to him talk for 5 years about how amazing a previous (male) grad student had been - HE really took command of seminars!

I can't get enough of them! More! More! :silly:

I have a weakness. I adore passionate, courageous, feisty, articulate, energetic people (particularly female, particularly diverse) who challange authority and stand up to the Emily Post Turtles.

I get tired of folks who sneer down their Roman noses at those using the "wrong fork" during a food fight.

he said "even the HIGH and HAUGHTY" would stop to make sure they are recognized, in regard to Rep. McKinney's incident. Anyone want to venture why he's use a term like "high and haughty"? Sounds waaay too much like "uppity.. "

40. I agree.
This whole thing has smacked of a double-standard from the beginning. And shame on America for not recognizing it in the first place.

I'll never understand why people are outraged about Cynthia McKinney, and not outraged at what brought about the incident in the first place.

Crispini said it best: Bite me, America.

45. Gosh, that 'uppity' word is getting a lot of traction
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 12:49 PM by Jose Diablo
makes a good meme, the word 'uppity'. Lots of visual images come with the word and also it places the object to which it is applied in judgement. Of course, if the object in question is a woman, so much the better. It'll piss the republican women off when the realize thats how their republican men think of them.

If I had to score the word on the meme effectiveness scale of 1-10, I'd say it's about a 9.

The word also applies judgement to the one using it, all the better. Let's run with it in applying it to the Republican side of language usage. It'll be a full-on broadside against the Republican Party. And it should help separate these guys from their women.

I'm not following this because it seems so silly. I find it hard to believe she hurt the police officer and it sounded like he touched her first -- so.... Maybe she could have handled it better -- but come on --- this is making a mountain out of a mole-hill and highly hypocritical - oh wait - I forgot - that's how Republicans are.
