I've been covering all this for the past few days, surrounding an issue I had with my publisher's art director sending through a copy of the hoax e-mail regarding an alleged confrontation with two liberals in a steak restaurant. As we all know, this never happened.
Anyway, I posted my objection to this being sent through the loop in the first place and received a couple of particularly annoying responses from a couple of kool-aide drinkers.
Today, however, I received a private e-mail of support from another author. This was posted yesterday.
fI am the proud grandmother of two Marine grandsons and one Army grandson. The last, *******, is married so his wife also has a husband in Iraq. She and I often talk per phone, but neither of us ever discusses how we feel politically, we're both focused on ******* returning safely. I support every man and woman serving over there. But does that mean I must support our present president and his policies? Definitely not. I know this is no place to discuss politics, but I resent being told I'm doing a disservice to the troops if I'm not for the war and Bush. I empathize with all service wives, but I hope we can keep any further comments about political matters off the loop. I apologize in advance for posting mine. I hope this probem never comes up again. I strongly feel writing lists are not the place for any talk concerning politics or religion.
This was posted today in response to that.
My son was in Desert fox. I can just imagine how you feel. I will always pray for and stand up for our young men. I've been Republican all my life until the potential port sellout was stopped. I'm now independent and have called to let Mr. Bush know my feelings. I offered to buy he and Laura first class tickets back to Texas if they'd stay there. and people like us, who've put our sons out there, have a perfect right to speak our mind anywhere, any place, any how. Isn't that why our sons went to defend our country. too much of our rights have been tampered with in my opinion. and as a former girl scout, boy scout, Sunday school teacher, church officer, and mother of two, my opinion counts. so does yours.
Worth cheering, in my opinion.
