Our Gas Just Jumped Again
We were down to 2.329 and this morning we are at 2.529. I swear they are just trying to slowly get people used to $3.00 gas so they won't pitch a huge fit about it.

This is such a rip-off and no one seems to be screaming.

How much of your monthly income goes for oil products. A lot of mine does - between gas for the car and gas for heat.

And speking of that - my monthly gas bill now has a $25.00 customer charge on it. What is that all about?

mind-boggling profits the companies are raking in. Knowing that, I'm furious.

5. I know. And then there was that deal about tax breaks for
the oil companies on top of everything else.

I would complain but no one seems to give a shit.

When AI figure how much of my money goes to taxes, insurance and oil I just want to puke.

4. In some areas of Dallas, gas prices actually dropped slightly
Now, instead of gas being blasphemously expensive, it's just "butt-ass expensive."

6. Folks, Not only are the Big Oil producers to blame....
Most of these high prices are because of people who are investing heavily in oil/gas stocks. Every time they hear something wrong with the gas pipeline, they buy more stock, knowing that it will go up. If there was a way to set the price of oil so that no one could SPECULATE, then we would have prices lower.

Chavez is trying to do just that. I would go for setting the price at $50 right now and keeping it at that price. At least it would get rid of speculators.

21. It's hit 68 a barrel so far today. Just 2 dollars shy of the Katrina high.
Wonder what they will say is the cause when we shoot past that high mark? Friggin 4 dollar a gallon gas is right around the corner.

27. Let's take a step into the future shall we?
August 2006: Brownsville, Texas.
A category 5 Hurricane steams to wards the Texas coast, already leaving in it's wake a sea of destruction as oil platform after oil platform has been either shut down, torn apart or set adrift.
Gas prices surged this week from an already high of $3.10 (national average) to $3.75.
If Katrina's destruction was devastating New Orleans, the long term impact of Hurricane Patty, will long be remembered as the perfect storm that hit the American oil industry.
Patty is being predicted to become the first Mega-Hurricane, surpassing the normal scale of 1-5. It's estimated winds at this time top 155 mph. It's current millibar reading is the lowest ever recorded. It has surpassed 1979's typhoon tip's 870 with an unbelievable 857.
Coastal communities and inland cities have been warned as far north as Lubbock. The projected track has Patty Plowing through central Texas and turning norht as a high pressure system pushes in from New Mexico.
Landfall is expected Tuesday afternoon.

In other news Marshall Law has been declared on the East Coast...

9. for the past half week the prices in Indy have fluctuated WILDLY
from 2.53 in a some places, to 2.69 just a couple of miles away. After years of almost inconcert increases and decreases (give or take a few cents) this is really odd/interesting.

Anyone else seeing a sudden break in uniformity of local gas prices?

10. If you are able to ride on two wheels
I highly recommend one of these:

A Bajaj motor scooter. Gets 100mpg, cruises at 55-60mph. With a four spped manual transmission, it has good pick up. I picked one of these up back in Sept. and have put over 3000 miles on it already, and just absolutely love it. A nice, stable ride, and the only problem I've had with it are the factory tires, the back one wore out quickly. I paid $2800 for it, and so far it's been one of the best investments I've ever made.

Since it has a 145cc engine, in most states you will be required to get plates on it and a motorcycle permit on your license. I don't recommend it for the four lane highway, but in the city, or the two lane back roads, it's ideal.

20. Hey, if you can do it maybe I can, too.
I just something that said that it costs about $7,000 a year to drive a car and I don't think that includes the car payment.

I have a jeep Wrangler and it does not get good mileage. And I think a little bike like that would be fun.

Do people try to run you off the road? Or get mad because you can't go very fast?

25. No, I haven't had them try to run me off yet
Granted, they're probably afraid that at my size if they piss me off, I'll just pick up the bike and toss it through their windshield, but hey, whatever works. And like I said earlier, I keep up with traffic quite well in town. Top end on the bike is 55-60mph, and with a four speed manual transimission, my pick up from a dead stop is quite fast, as fast as some larger motorcycles, and faster than most cars.

About the only problem I've had is that there are a few people who underestimate how fast I'm going, they see the scooter profile and think that I'm riding one of those 50cc DWI scooters. Thus, they think they've got plenty of time and pull out right in front of me. I've had a couple of close calls, but I watch people carefuly and am ready for that to happen.

The ones who really disrespect me are the deer. They don't hear me coming, so they continue to stand out in the road. Then when they see me, I'm not a car, so they continue to stand out in front of me in the road. Even when I beep the horn and yell at them, they take they're sweet time moving, and are close enough that I could move over a foot in one direction or another and slap them on the butt. Infuriating, but laughable in it's own way.

I work in Columbia Mo, and have had no problems with traffic there. Out in the country where I live, I get the occaissional short dick prick who thinks I'm some sort of affront to his manhood and truck, and will pass me even though I'm going sixty in a fifty five mph zone. I just laugh and go on.

If you're really interested in one of these bikes, your closest dealer is in Overland Park<http://www.scooterworldkc.com/> And you can find out more about Bajajs in general at <http://www.bajajusa.com>

15. Did You See the Article in the Star about how bad off we
would be if gas went to $4.00 or higher? We would have a huge mess. No public transportation. And people don't know how to use the buses that are there.

I road the bus for years here and it was a real challenge to get anywhere. What would have taken 30 minutes in a car would take me an hour and a half or more. Our system is pretty bad.

I probably would be walking a lot more if that actually happens.

16. Yes the public transportation here stinks.
Would be interesting to see how the proposed light rail system a few years ago would have helped. I personally can't imagine 4.00 gas here. My wife and I don't drive gas guzzlers but even if your in the mid 20s its painful.

As far as the economy well ever dollar spent anywhere in any city on extra gas expenise is one less dollar to spend for a dinner out, movies etc.

17. Exactly.
How was your gas bill? Was it double from last winter?

Mine finally went back down but now there is some $25 Customer Charge on there - what is that about? So my $55 dollar gas bill is now $77

22. Do you own your house?
If so, I would recommend that you put in an external woodstove to heat both the house and your hot water heater(if it's gas fired). They now come with catalytic convertors, so the pollution they put out the stove pipe is only ten percent of what it was on old stoves. And with wood running $100-$150 a cord, cut and split, it would be a lot less than what you're paying for gas. Most winters you would only need three cords max.

We're putting one in this summer because our propane bills are shooting through the roof. Then I'm taking the savings we're realizing from my bike and the woodstove and roll it all over into a wind turbine for electricity.

Trying to be as self sufficient as possible to insulate us from the ever greater energy price shocks that are coming down the pike.

30. Whoops, scratch that suggestion
Did some research over the lunch hour, and apparently external wood furnaces aren't all that they're cracked up to be.

However, perhaps you can go with the time tested indoor woodstove. I've had one before, and think that they're absolutely wonderful. There are many styles and brands, so do your research before you buy.

24. I know the gas bill was certainly higher especially considering the winter
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 09:58 AM by newportdadde
We have MGE and I'm not sure if the rate was double or not, the bills seemed pretty damn high though given the mild winter, particularly Feb. I do know that even when its just our water heater its much higher then it was previously.

No surcharge on our bill.

We also kept the house a few degrees cooler, my wife was pregnant with twins and wanted the house cold. After they were born she apologized for making us live in a freezer and raised the temp up 4 degrees.
