These two letters are in rebuttal to "Bush's Sorry Legacy," printed in Stars & Stripes on Monday.
http://www.stripes.com/article.asp?section=125&article=36207I love how the male letter writers blast "she" for this and "she" for that. "She" quoted Columbia/Harvard econ. professors. What do these two jokers have to offer? Tired diatribes regurgitated by the RW choking-heads.
It won't take long before these writers are slammed by others, particularly those on 3rd tours who are stop-lossed. There's nothing like a war of words in Stars & Stripes. Let's get the issues out in the open, and make people think, rather than shop, for a change. What better way to make Bush blotch and gray just a little bit more?

I suggest that the writer of “Bush’s sorry legacy” (letter, April 3) get her facts straight before giving us her liberal propaganda.
“The Long War” is going to be long. I don’t remember anybody saying that this war was going to be easy or short. When President Bush decided to invade Iraq, with Congress’ approval, he didn’t set a timetable or promise this was going to be a short war so he could satisfy the CATO Institute, focus groups and polls. A withdrawal of troops from Iraq before the mission is accomplished and Iraqi forces have total control over the security of that country will be like putting a welcome mat out for terrorists.
After Sept. 11, 2001, Bush made it clear that all terrorists and those who harbor them will be targets of the United States and defeated. Saddam Hussein is a terrorist and was collaborating with terrorists, including al-Qaida. His regime was out of control, and he was a serious threat to his neighbors and would have been a threat to the entire world.
the reason why the Iraq war took place, not because of oil, like the letter writer was implying.
Bush is right when he says that the only way the enemy can defeat us is psychologically. They are waiting for us to back down like we did in the first Persian Gulf War.
It is a noble and worthy cause that is being fought, and someday, I believe that people such as the letter writer will understand that. If you don’t like what is being done in Iraq and elsewhere, offer an alternative solution. If you don’t have one, all you are doing is whining, and that is not a solution to anything.

Bush’s awesome legacy
I just read “Bush’s sorry legacy” and it is disheartening to see how someone could feel that way after they know the facts.
I am so sick of people jumping on the hindsight wagon of “I told you so” after the fact. Armchair quarterbacks at best. I can sound really smart after I know the outcome of an event. Go back and pick apart a plan with all the knowledge of the outcome. That takes no courage, confidence or leadership. President Bush has shown all three.
Bush has taken all the information he has at the time and made a decision. This is what leaders do. He isn’t worried about what poll says what. He just simply (along with his staff) is securing America, as a good president does.
I am here to testify that there have been so many great things accomplished in this country. A people threatened who vote for their own government; a people threatened who volunteer to become policemen or join the Iraqi army; a people threatened who stand firm in not allowing terrorists to take root in their community. The progress list goes on and on, progressing much faster than our own country did in its inception.
Thanks to the letter writer for showing us what she is made of. is very enlightening to know where some Americans stand. Don’t stop them from talking, though, because the more they do, the more you understand their motives. Freedom is beautiful that way also.
Thank you, President Bush, for not being afraid to be a leader.
