Regis H.S. Basks in Glory of FAMOUS grad: FITZ - NYC's top H.S.

You have to love this. Regis is a Jesuit HS on NYC's East Side. It's a top notch private school for those New York Catholic kids who are exceptionally bright but lack the means for a top notch private school. FITZ is an alum. I can't tell you how smart you need to be in a city of 8.0 million people to merit selection for this school. They're proud of him. Very nice side story. I'll bet this is where he learned his most important lessons. THANK YOU REGIS H.S. Bask in your glory.

Alum Takes on the White House: Exclusive with Patrick J. Fitzgerald

by Joseph Santo, '06

Patrick Fitzgerald ‘78, a well-respected and diligent federal prosecutor, was appointed by George W. Bush as Special Counsel for the ongoing “CIA Leak Case” of October 30, 2003.

The “CIA Leak Case” has the potential to be the “Watergate Scandal” of the Bush administration; the case is predicated upon the disclosure of CIA Officer Valerie Plame’s identity to the media.

While the disclosure of any CIA officer’s identity constitutes a criminal act, the leak of Valerie Plame’s identity in July 2003 has even greater and further-reaching implications. Valerie... continued

1. Is Regis still boys only?
Regis was all boys through at least the 1980s. I know there were some legal challenges but because the school was funded with by a trust or a legacy specifically targeted to educate boys, the exclusionary practice was always upheld.
Grrrr, uttered by a girl from the Diocese of Brooklyn who excelled academically but could not apply for the school.

3. We'll just over look this. I'll bet they have a girls equivalent.

egis students come from a wide range of socio-economic
backgrounds - over 40% are the sons of immigrants. All
students commute to Regis; the average trip between home and

Manhattan 63 Staten Island 22
Bronx 43 Westchester/Upstate/CT 121
Queens 99 Long Island 66
Brooklyn 53 New Jersey 63

8. There is no girls' equivalent
So your research indicates that it is still all boys?
St. Regis is all-scholarship. It's very competitive to get in, of course, and only the most academically gifted boys get accepted. There is also another all boys' school that is all scholarship, Cathedral High School in Queens. It is not as academically rigorous as St. Regis but again boys get a good free education.
There is no equivalent school for girls in either the Diocese of New York or the Diocese of Brooklyn. Remember -- girls can't become priests.
My gripe against the sexist Catholic educational system is not a gripe against Fitz. But remember he was competing only against boys for admission, not the full population of Catholic school children.

2. That is not on the Upper West Side.
It is the Upper East Side. The address says it all.

55 East 84th Street.

7. I live there now.
Was wishful thinking on my part as well. I was going to pay my respects at the altar, but I guess I will have to go to the East side.

:-)

6. Well, you'll have the first impeached SCOTUS Judge;)
Still, must be an excellent school. Helped you be smart enough to relize that, regardless of his alumni status, Scalia is a POS;)
