Bryan Kennedy blasted Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner today for a nearly $12,000 trip that Sensenbrenner and his wife took to Liechtenstein and Germany in February, with the tab picked up by the International Management and Development Institute. The Congressman has made the same trip several other times in years past. According to politicalmoneyline.com, Sensenbrenner has taken more money for travel than any other Congressman.
“Perhaps Sensenbrenner’s free vacations are the reason he is having such a hard time making up his mind on whether or not to weaken House ethics rules,” said Bryan Kennedy, who is campaigning to replace Sensenbrenner in Congress. Kennedy was referring to Sensenbrenner’s vote to weaken the ethics rules in 2005, and then his flip-flop to restore them several months later.
“Families in our district can’t get lobbyists to send them on $12,000 vacations every year, and realize that the only reason that lobbyists pay for Congressman Sensenbrenner’s trips is to buy his influence. This is another example of Sensenbrenner buying into the culture of corruption in Washington D.C.”
Kennedy is running to replace Jim Sensenbrenner in Wisconsin’s 5th Congressional District. The 5th Congressional District includes all of Ozaukee and Washington counties, and portions of Milwaukee, Jefferson and Waukesha counties.
