5. He can juxtapose it with the Berlusconi/dry hump footage
and say something like, "Both of these guys have us 'bent over' and lubed up for a good snogging"

4. I love how the headlines stress the angle that the leak was "authorized"
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 01:34 PM by kenny blankenship
as in a legitimate procedure. Not that Bush knew of and/or instigated an illegal conspiracy to compromise national security information for his personal political purposes.

7. The great thing is, though, that the media doesn't do nuance well
They've been trained NOT to by BushCo. So the story that comes out is that the White House authorized leaking any old bullshit to justify war, and then LIED to America and said they didn't do it.

Ma and Pa in the heartland look at each other, and say to themselves: Gee, he lied his way into war--that ain't nice!

11. I just wonder how well the msm will refresh everyone's memory:
Bush's quote "I don't know of anybody leaking in this administration...I want to find the leaker and he'll be fired" ought to be good enough to impeach him--it ought to be--but only if the public is reacquainted with all his ethically challenged statements about the Plame affair, in their original contexts.

6. And Bush, himself, said it was a criminal matter.
This action by Bush is a rather stunning and extraordinary development. The President of the United States is potentially hiring a private criminal defense lawyer. Unsurprisingly, the White House is doing all it can to bury the story, providing precious little detail or context for the President's action.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Bush explained his action by saying, "This is a criminal matter. It's a serious matter," but he gave no further specifics. White House officials, too, would not say exactly what prompted Bush to seek the outside advice, or whether he had been asked to appear before the grand jury.

12. This is the Death Knell.
Bush can not survive this. There is simply no way he can recover from this latest jolt. It's been like waves smashing against the cliffs for about 5 years. This is the monster wave, though.

And notice? This was calmly, carefully delivered by Libby and his "team" of attorneys. This is not some rogue whistle blower. These people had to get their statements vetted by Cheney before saying anything.

They are making Bush walk the plank.

13. I think they are banking on the presidential ability to declassify.
I also think their thinking stinks. If that is their tact they could have made this all go away in the beginning.. This appears as a last resort to me.

17. But even if the President can declassify, then the convo must...
turn to why would the President compromise sensitive CIA operations... will the "incompetence" canard work this time as well? Or will this be viewed as naked political scheming? Time will tell.

20. Great headline, but Libby didn't testify that Bush authorized Plame leak.
Libby testified that Cheney told him Bush had authorized leaking info from a National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq.

Libby claimed he didn't know Plame's identity until Russert told him. Said he didn't leak Plame info to Judy because he didn't know it at the time. Or had forgotten that he knew. Poor Libby, couldn't say he was authorized to do something he claimed he hadn't done. But there's still time to come clean and strike a deal with Fitz...

Still, one imagines that some sphincters loosened at the WH when they saw all the "breaking news" headlines. LOL
