I'm now convinced the new leak news is going nowhere
1. Apparently, this has nothing to do with Valerie Plame, despite all of the mentions of her name in these threads.
2. As far as I can tell now, it appears that Bush authorizing this leak is technically not illegal due to some BS statute that apparently makes it impossible for a president to leak information for this because it's just deemed "unclassified" if he leaks it.
3. Yes, it makes him look like an idiot because he's said all of these things about hating leaks, but that's all this is going to do. It'll make Bush look like even more of a lying idiot, but there's going to be nothing done as far as impeachment.

Sorry to be so pessimistic, but I'm interested in hearing what I'm missing here.

1. At the very least his numbers will tank down into the 20's
and with any luck he'll drag the rest of the party down with him. I'm not convinced it's going nowhere yet by the way.

2. Bush, himself, said the incident was criminal.

7. That's referring to the Plame investigation right?
Libby's revelation had nothing to do with that as far as I can tell. Maybe that will play an important part in a future announcement by Fitzgerald, but I don't see its relevance for today.

5. what do you mean "going nowhere" The guy is losing credibility by the hour

Hell the House is talking about starting debates regarding the war.

He's losing those who have cowered to him for the past 6 years.

6. The authorization of the leak had to include
the info about Plame because Libby told Judy her name.

8. I started this post and got some interesting responses to the...
did he break the law or not question.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=861252&mesg_id=861252

It seems a little less cut and dry than you might think.

In any event, it is damaging to the man's credibility (not to mention chaney's), regardless of whether he is in hot water with the law or not.

Let's keep a good thought! It isn't about getting *, it's about getting to the truth!

just sayin'.

11. Obstruction Of Justice?
Did he not, by lieing about knowledge of the origin of the leak, obstruct the progress of justice in other pending cases on the same subject?

17. Are you still talking about the same thing?
When did he lie about the knowledge of the origin of the leak? I was personally unaware that there was an investigation going on regarding the information revealed today.

WAS there an investigation going on with regards to the Iraqi information? If so, I stand corrected.

13. biggest thing it does is inflict further damage on "Brand W"
republicans and "Brand W" itself. Per impeachment, that is highly unlikely with a sitting GOP congress anyway.

14. It's more damage for the republicans. This also shows Bush
lying yet again. It also doesn't help that Delay went down in flames yesterday.

People are really fed up and this only solidifies that notion.

16. I don't think so. MSM is linking Bush to Plame. And that in
itself is notable. Add to the fact that the RW rag the NY Sun broke the story and something is up. . You are buying the RW spin of this. The President can't "authorize "treason'. Even his Dad said so. Add Bush's non reception in Conn. yesterday and the refusal of Governors and congressman to be seen with him and Houston, you have a biiiiig problem. Libby better be under witness protection. I also think Rove, who has been cooperating is about to throw Bush under the bus, if he hasn't alreafdy. This is what Fitzpatrick has been waiting for. Mark my words. This is all over the media. The barn door is now open, the horse is out and Bush will NOT be able to get him back in. As MSM said"where there is smoke, there is fire"!

18. Leaking Plame's name was ILLEGAL
David Ensor, reporter on CNN, said leaking the NIE info was legal, but that leaking Plame's name was "clearly illegal." If Bush is found to have authorized the leak of Plame's name, this would be impeachable. Today's news seems to be leading, eventualy, to proving that Bush authorized the leak of Plame's name.

20. His GOP cult followers will love him for it.
No matter what he does they will support him. Just watch his numbers. If his approval rating falls more than 5 points I'll be amazed. They will never abandon him. They'll just excuse it away with all the excuses they've used before.
They see everything as being done for the good of the party. "Hail to the GOP!"
If he's asleep on the job and we're attacked it's, "Hail to the GOP!"
If he starts a war needlessly and blows a half a trillion bucks it's "Hail to the GOP!"
If thousands of American's are killed or left homeless and it takes a couple of days for him to notice it's, "Hail to the GOP!"
If he tries to steal your Social Security it's, "Hail to the GOP!"
No matter what it's, "Hail to the GOP!"
