AZ Senator’s son & camp abuse
Would some kind soul fill in the blanks for me?

I saw part of a report.

The parents of the abused kids (poked with sticks and choked at the hands of camp counselors) are upset that the perpetrators will most likely get away with their crimes.

The spokesperson for the parents alluded to the fact that one of the teenage councilors is the son of a senator, and hinted at collusion.

I tried researching with no luck. Does anyone have details?

1. It's been discussed at length in a number of threads

I'd like to correct this, however: "poked with sticks." That's now how I describe rape with a broom handle and heavy-duty flashlight.

4. According to the county attorney, there was "no penetration"
so "poked with sticks" seems accurate, if you believe her that is.

from a post I made on another thread regarding this:

Yavapai County attorney Sheila Polk from Prescott's newspaper (The Daily Courier) yesterday:

The public has received a lot of misinformation about the Bennett and Wheeler case from the media. By SHEILA POLK Special to the Courier

Simply and somewhat graphically put, the defendants would use a broom stick or flashlight and push it into the crevice of campers' buttocks over their clothes. Sometimes someone held the victims down and sometimes not. There is absolutely no evidence that this was done with a sexual motivation. No penetration occurred, either in the anus or rectum. The victims were not secreted away to a hiding spot while this was done to them. It was done in front of the other campers. In fact, several photographs were taken by other campers. This is hardly the work of sexual predators. Rather, it is the work of two young men repeatedly making poor decisions. We all have heard reports of this sort of thing throughout the United States over many years: hazing gone wrong.

She is saying it's not bad enough to warrant all this attention. Says the media is misinformed etc.

5. Well that's funny, considering one of the mothers
specifically said her son had had an object shoved up his ass.

I'm sure this was all in "fun" and these were some "very nice young men" who got a little "carried away."

:sarcasm:

Frankly, I don't think it matters whether there was penetration. If they'd poked girls in the crotch as part of an initiation, it would be clearly termed sexual assault. It doesn't matter what the degree was. We need to stop giving this kind of behavior a pass.

Thank you for the additional information, though.

3. Didn't Arizona make 'hazing' illegal not too long ago? Why aren't
they and the 'camp' being charged with violations of those laws?
