Gov Perry says no special election for Delay's seat
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 04:20 PM by Jersey Devil
unless he resigns in writing by this Friday.

Excellent! Now our candidate Lampson will not have to run the gauntlet of perhaps 3 elections or run against an incumbent.

3. No - seat remains vacant until the election in November
A gov cannot appoint a member of the House.

4. Too bad!
I guess that he will have to forgo all that good Christian money for his legal fees since he will have to stop accepting campaign money once he abandons his race. I feel soooo sorry for him.

6. This is pretty good all around.
1. With no special election, under Texas law the R bigwigs in the district simply anoint a new R candidate for the November election, regardless of whether that person ran in the primary. So I expect one or more of the primary losers may challenge that anointing, leading to infighting.

2. Lampson can make a lot of hay criticizing Perry for not calling the special election, or an emergency election.

3. I'd say there's a better than even chance that district will get at least part of a major hurricane this summer, most likely after Delay leaves in June. With no one to speak for them in Congress, well, that just looks bad.

Anything I missed?
