white folk. We have to be damn near perfect to be consider equa. And when I think of what the
elder black members of Congress went through to get where they are and she's up there actin like a rude asshole and scuffling with the police it makes us look bad.
Consider all of the water cannons shot at Martin Luther King and John Lewis. They couldn't fight back
and knew it. She's risking a lot and not must her own ass hole.

19. Thanks xultar
for your perspective. Hard for some of the firebrand McKinney supporters to call you a racist or ignorant about the challenges facing black people in positions of power. There are so many black members of Congress I deeply admire, in part, for the great dignity with which they conduct themselves. John Conyers, John Lewis, Barbara Lee and Sheila Jackson Lee, come immediately to mind.

I support McKinney from the attack by the right and the MSM. She hasn't made it easy.

these were the worst I've ever seen, but then, I'm a black racist-supporter, so what do I know

9. that's the saddest part of all...can you imagine the PRESSURE
the DLN/DNC applied to get her to do that?

I may hate them (DLC, etal) more than the pugs now

they've acheived the unthinkable now....worse than this:

so it MUST be true

I'll bet your knowledge of the Black Caucus is as complete as it is of the way the media operates!

great post

17. for pity's sake,
use your brain, man. I thoroughly doubt that the DLC has any influence on Cynthia McKinney. When McKinney apologized Sheila Jackson Lee was standing right beside her. I hate to break this to you, but she's gotten very little support from the CBC. Odds are they did indeed pressure her to apologize. Surely you're not suggesting that the DLC and the DNC threatened her and forced her to apologize?

I'm glad she apologized. She was partly responsible for creating this huge distraction by holding a 3 ring circus press conference and popping up all over tv. This is the responsible thing to do.

23. LOL
Could you be any more willfully blind? Run faster from the facts? Did you read what John Lewis said to her? How much clearer could it possibly be? She has no support from the CBC. You going to condemn John Lewis and the rest of the CBC? Nevermind, I'm sure you'll find a way to denigrate them.

25. has anyone reported that the DLC pushed her to apologize? and it makes
sence to me that the Black Causus would not want this esculated any more that it is already.

I only wrote what I heard---that it was the Black Causus who met with last night and pushed her apolgize. They did not say anything about the DLC (unless I missed it).

27. don't know...just speculating, like everybody else at DU has been
over the facts of the case, and the percentage of those who seem to know what happened, then expand that 'knowledge' into amazingly negative character 'assessments' of one of the few democrats who's actually stood UP to the regime just leaves me stunned

compare that to the way the other side responds to the slightest questioning of their dear leader, or any of his minions

what's the opposite of circling the wagons?

oh...circular firing squad

29. It's no longer speculation
to say that the CBC pressured her to drop her high profile defense of her actions. Or do you doubt that John Lewis has been accurately quoted?

And frankly, I don't want to be like the repukes.

14. John Lewis to McKinney:
Lewis advises McKinney to stop
By Josephine Hearn

Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), a civil-rights pioneer and the senior member of the Georgia Democratic congressional delegation, told Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) to stop making political hay out of her scuffle a week ago with a U.S. Capitol Police officer.

“I told her she needs to lower the temperature and stop holding the press conferences,” Lewis said, recounting his conversation with McKinney on the House floor yesterday. “I don’t think it had any impact because she is still going on all the TV shows.”

Lewis said other members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) had also told McKinney to back off, adding that she had little support in the group. It held an emergency meeting last night to discuss the issue, a House source said.

Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas) told Human Events on Tuesday that he would consider filing an ethics complaint against McKinney if nobody else did. Yesterday he said he would monitor how law-enforcement authorities deal with the matter.

15. don't confuse me with facts, I tell you!
as if the behind the scenes machinations will be made public.

wait...the dems' computers, phones, etc., have proven to be tapped, so we probably will hear what was said to get them to bow so quickly

course, I spose there is the possibility that they've bowed to the 'amazingly,' and uniformly, negative media coverage

perhaps they see they can't win this one, and are pulling back

I'm PISSED that they're not playing up this angle, in any event

18. hey...you're all correct here
this is ALL McKinney's fault.

she not only brought it on herself; she upped the ante by trying to defend herself, when she CLEARLY should have remained Kerry-like, mute, while the RW onslaught overwhelmed the unimportant "news" taking place in DC

she deserves everything she gets

thanks for opening my eyes, DU

Now, what can we do to help DeLay in his battle against the evil prosecutor?

20. I guess this means we're all Jack Cafferty. That's who the thread is about
Listen, Rep. McKinney's the one who held two press conferences to say how racist the DC cops are. Did you think they were going to stand by and not defend themselves?

You got a beef with her apologizing? Take it up with the CBC, then.

why are you so quick to give her ZERO benefit of the doubt

she's supposed to sit there and be swiftboated to political death by the RW and the M$M?

I find it stunning that there are so many here that are so quick to judge
