"Apple vs. Me" - corporations vs the 1st amendment.

This case is not about me, it's not about Apple, and it's not about the technology industry. It's about the First Amendment.

On December 13, 2005 Apple filed suit against "Does 1-20" in a Santa Clara California court. The company obtained a court order that allows it to issue subpoenas to PowerPage (and AppleInsider) for the names of the "Does" who allegedly leaked information. A nice Christmas card from the company that I have loved and supported for years.

But Apple didn't subpoena me directly, they instead set their legal sights on the low hanging fruit - my ISP - a small company that was handling my email and Web hosting in addition to a few other clients. What's sad about Apple's approach here was that their attorneys attempted to intimidate a small host/developer/ISP with legal threats that look pretty daunting when coming from a company with US$14B in revenue on their balance sheet.


The article is depressing enough. Guess which word some of the more infantile commenters uses? Terrorist. And it's not against Apple. :wow:

These corporations were founded in America. Or at least, they operate ARE in America.

Either way, they have to abide by America's laws.

Just like they have to abide to China's laws when working with the Chinese. :think:

America, right now, has the freedom of speech.

You should be asking why corporations hate America.

The right is a shield against government power.

If you acyually read the amendment, you will learn that it prohibits Congress from abridging freedom of speech, a prohibtion which has been extended tto the states through the 14th amendment.

You could look it up-o.

4. I fell out of love with Apple when I couldn't get my new iPod to work.

The Apple "Genius" said I ruined my pod hard-drive by importing songs into tunes from Cd's that skip and when I put them on the pod - of course it ruins the hard-drive permanently. He then slowly explained that I didn't understand - there was a very small hard drive in my 30GB pod. I am a computer programmer - so I found this insulting - but I let it go. He gave me a "new" (actually refurbished) one and it broke too. I haven't listened to one song - the damn thing breaks the minute I put songs on it. I have a brand new Windows laptop with XP and they said I should have gotten a Mac. Who are they kidding. I WAS going to get a Mac but I want to take .Net classes and I need Windows for that. Now I'm glad I didn't or it looks like my laptop would have broken loading songs from skipped Cd's. Ugh! Apple DID send me a label to Fed-Ex it back for a refund. Lets hope I get my money back! Another problem is I have loaded almost 2000 songs in their AAC format - so I can't use another MP3 player. Have you heard of these problems?
