Libby did NOT say Bush OKed the Plame Outing.
Libby is talking about a secret National Intelligence Estimate that he showed to some reporters.

It's probably worthless to point that out now since every post is "Bush Outed Plame."

2. You're right but what this reveals is even worse I think
And if we can wrap it all up with the Plamegate thing, better yet.

3. You are correct - what he DID say -
Bush authorized leaking the NIE, classified intelligence information for political purposes. He did it to discredit a critic (Wilson) and take us to war.

Worse, IMHO, and will eventually be tied to Plame I have no doubt, since all of it is connected.

4. Libby talked of 3 leaks that I know of: see Wass below

http://news.nationaljournal.com/articles/0406nj1.htm

Bush and Cheney authorized the release of the information regarding the NIE in the summer of 2003, according to court documents, as part of a damage-control effort undertaken only days after former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV alleged in an op-ed in The New York Times that claims by Bush that Saddam Hussein had attempted to procure uranium from the African nation of Niger were most likely a hoax.

According to the court papers, "At some point after the publication of the July 6 Op Ed by Mr. Wilson, Vice President Cheney, immediate supervisor, expressed concerns to regarding whether Mr. Wilson's trip was legitimate or whether it was in effect a junket set up by Mr. Wilson's wife."

Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, was a covert CIA officer at the time, and Cheney, Libby, and other Bush administration officials believed that Wilson's allegations could be discredited if it could be shown that Plame had suggested that her husband be sent on the CIA-sponsored mission to Niger.

Two days after Wilson's op-ed, Libby met with then-New York Times reporter Judith Miller and not only disclosed portions of the NIE, but also Plame's CIA employment and potential role in her husband's trip.

5. Bush outed Plame
We know he did. We can't prove it yet but we're getting closer and closer. But it really doesn't matter because he has to wear this like an anchor for quite some time.

12. Cheney (at least) outed Plame.
We don't know if Bush had anything to do with it and maybe he didn't.

But what the new revelation does show is Bush was involved in the campaign to discredit Wilson. How much he knew about the Plame outing we still don't know.

9. All of the leaks WERE FOR A SINGLE PURPOSE: To Discredit Joe Wilson
And refute his argument, justifying the use of false intel in Bush's SOTU (remember the 16 words).

16. Yeah I agree this shows Bush was in on the anti-Wilson campaign
and that is highly significant, but it stops pretty far short of pinning the Plame outing, in particular, on Bush, as some overenthusiastic DUers keep saying.

19. It was a two-fer for the bush administration:
outing Valerie Plame also permanently got rid of that pesky little operation that was keeping track of WMD in the middle east. An operation like that is not easily rebuilt.

10. In effect, Bush did out Plame
Bush allowed a conspiracy to be committed when he leaked information which was meant to discredit Joe Wilson.

The leaking of Plame's name was part of the conspiracy to discredit Wilson.

11. Right.
Pages 27-28 of Fitzgerald's document makes it very clear that the "Bush outed Plame" is about as accurate as Chicken Little's "The Sky is Falling."

13. I see- so he was for it before he was against it. Depends on what "is" is.
Spin, spin, spin.

The catch is that Bush lied when he claimed not to know ANYTHING about all of this.

Bush lied about this, which is an impeachable offense according to GOP/media standards set under Clinton.

That is all that matters.

22. Ah, but there IS one thing to remember
when it came time for Bush to be "interviewed" by Fitz (since he was not under oath, but that still doesn't mean he can't be prosecuted for the same charges as Libby), Bush LAWYERED UP..

As far as I know John Dean, or one of those Watergate guys who has his shit together came out and said that was VERY TELLING..

Personally, after researching this Plame story for a year or more, and creating my two DVD set Called "Rove's War" with a complete chronology on it of the Plame outing, I could come up with all kinds of scenarios, write stories, conjecture and probably be right in a lot of instances, but I don't want to cut in on any of the hysteria that pops up when someone posts conjecture, calls it journalism and then if part of it turns out to be right they crow about it and abuse people who called them on it..

Don't want to be part of that crowd.. (this is not to say that people like Jane Hamsher at Firedoglake or H2OMan aren't doing some fine investigative work).. but I will say this. There's at least ONE PERSON that NEVER gets mentioned here that I personally believe WAS THE LEAKER that counted the MOST..

Anyone want to know? (and this is not to say that Libby wasn't having lunch with Judith Miller with a sachel full of bullshit to pass on, which she used)

Actually I'm afraid to give away my conjecture because there seems to be an incredible amount of Plagerism going on for big money on the web and I sure could use a cut of that pie, having worked for nearly nothing, but a few generous souls, a lot of them from the DU :)
