Maybe Mckinney did a smart thing
by falling on the sword of her own self-righteousness. Get it off the frontpages so that the party can respond to the Felons da few blocks down the the road.

I am delighted she said what she said. I just hope th folks who called us white supremecist for not jumping on her bandwagon with entusiastic support will understand our concerns about her overreaching on the issue in a time when our energy should be on other more important issues.

I am still not sure exactly what happened...all I know is that she did a wise thing in deflating the issue.

1. I think McKinney is a pretty smart gal...
She may have done a dumb thing in lashing out at the cop, but she asks good questions, important questions. And she took steps to take the heat off this incident, which she needed to do.

We need her to keep asking those tough questions - there aren't enough like her!

6. Ugh.
So I suppose John Lewis who told Cynthia McKinney to cool it, is a racist too? Have fun making that case.

3. She is saving the fight of racism for another day.
Right now, she is stepping back so we can unite to fight Armageddon first.

13. Does anyone really think that some cops didn't give Cynthia a hard time?
Think she's not harrassed and monitered? On the national airwaves, Cynthia McKinney was called a "ghetto whore" who should be ridiculed by all decent human beings about her strange haircut.

14. I think you may be right
the question is how do you respond to being harassed and monitored?

7. I am sorry I offended it was not my intent
I was called a white supremacist for saying that I though she was over reaching. I responded to the attack with this.

"This white supremacist lived in DeKalb for 15 years. This Whitee went to a majority black HS.

This honkee was two years old when his folks drove him and his three year old sister through the night in there little blue vw bug from Boston to DC to hear Martin speak on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

This cracker has a dad who personally knew Cheney and Schwerner. When Martin was killed my Dad spent three day and nights in Newark NJ working on reconciliation. This is the same man who grew up in the 1950s in Macon, GA giving "Little Richard" Pennyman nickels to hambone for him and then as a dad sang me "We Shall Overcome" as a lullaby. A song that still makes me cry.

Don't you even begin to call me a white supremacist...I will match my proud honky pedigree with anyone on DU.

You think Martin would have approved of this bravado? You think John Lewis thinks this is appropriate. Hell even Jesse is staying away from this one. Wonder why?

8. I think she could have stopped this dead in the water earlier.
All she needed to do was tell her side and acknowledge what she did. Then it isn't all news all the time. Talk about giving the Rethugs a soft pitch to divert from their scandals du jour.

10. McKinney showed a lot of guts doing that
the issue was getting heated to the point where apologizing was extremely difficult.
