Not really, but check out this video that Atrios posted to Escaton a bit ago.. It's of Delay's goons assaulting an older woman.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PogrDzg8fxs&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fatrios%2Eblogspot%2Ecom%2F

The assault occurs in the first few seconds of the clip. This was during Nick Lampson's press conference this morning.

1. Harrass - Yes. Assault - No.
The idiot with the Delay T-shirt pulled her hat down over her eyes -- he is a bully, an ass, a jerk. Harassment - yes. Assault - no.

:hi:

2. Assault is anytime someone lays their hands on you
without your permission. If she claims she was frightened, she could go for assault and battery.

3. So McKinney should be charging the officer with assault?
He laid his hands on her.

5. Why are you downplaying a physical assault on an elderly woman? Why?
Why?

8. Downplaying assault on an elderly woman?
I am not a lawyer, I have (thankfully) not had reason to know the 'official' definition of 'assault'. In my everyday language - assault means hitting, punching, kicking, grabbing and shoving - if y'all want to use the legal definition that is fine with me. I do think that the term will give people an incorrect impression of what happened -- so a better way to go (IMO) is to describe exactly what happened.

I get tired of threads that exaggerate - the other day someone posted a thread entitled "Amy Goodman Insulted" -- and it was about Katie Couric being called the 'first woman anchor' -- to me insulting someone is more than 'overlooking'.

And, as for assault on elderly women, I think it is a great idea -- my mother, my grandmother, my elderly women friends -- I think it should happen to them all. :sarcasm:

Geez. :eyes:

6. Totally different circumstances...
This man that assaulted the lady wasn't there to guard the podium, he was there to assault someone...

10. So, the cops kick your ass....
... and you want us to look the other way and say: Well, the cops must have had a good reason.

The whole thing has practically made Cynthia McKinney a household word. That's a good thing. 'Cause she's one of the few who wouldn't let the cops get away with kicking your ass.

14. Yes , she should
press countercharges...she has more right(as the peoples representative) to be there than the cop does. The reason for the privlege clause, was to keep opposition from taking authority positions and then using those positions to impede political enemies...and that was before there was even such a thing as the Capitol police force.

4. No it is not harassment. It is 100% assault. Assault is when you...
...lay your hands on another person or hit them with a missile(anything thrown).

11. Just a point of reference for assault
As a nurse, if someone is awake and choking and I don't ask their permission to perform the Heimlich maneuver, they can have me arrested for assault.
The law is very clear. It is any time someone lays a hand on you--even if they are trying to save your life--without your permission.
As another point of reference...just so someone doesn't think we would just watch someone choke to death, as soon as they are unconscious, it is implied that that they would give their permission to save them from dying.

13. Assault -- yes; battery -- no
In most states, assault is threatening, etc., battery is putting hands on someone.
