CONTACT Sen. Allard now and demand apology for his smears against Kerry
Today on the Senate floor Wayne Allard (Bushbot-CO) viciously attacked and smeared John Kerry for demanding withdrawal of American soldiers from Iraq. For a cowardly chickenhawk like Allard, who has never worn a uniform, to impugn the patriotism of a decorated war veteran is unconscionable. Allard parrots the tired GOP canard that Bush is strong because he "stays the course." Well Wayne, when the course is leading you right into an iceberg, it might be wise to steer the ship away.

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Kerry_Allard_spar_on_Senate_floor_0406.html

From the Raw Story article:

Allard had claimed that in Senator John Kerry (D-MA), "We're seeing an individual who's being spun in the political winds." He added that a Kerry resolution calling for an Iraq pullout is, "Not anything that we should take very seriously."

snip..

"When it comes to issues of war and peace and young Americans dying, nobody spins me," Kerry announced early into a long and forceful rebuttal. "Period."

snip...

Kerry's language became even more direct as he went on to blast Allard's assurances that the administration was credible on the topic of the war. "Remember them telling us that U.S. soldiers were going to be received like conquering heroes with flowers all across Iraq?" he asked his fellow lawmakers. "They told us it would cost $20 billion to $30 billion. Remember that, colleagues?"

"No planning was put in place," he blasted. "What are we doing? Just drifting day after day after day... People have been able to make mistake after mistake after mistake, and people want to come to the Senate floor and defend it as somehow justifiable."

"What we need now," Kerry concluded, "Is civilian high pressure that is equal to the sacrifice of our soldiers."

Contact Allard NOW and let him know that his remarks were unprofessional, cowardly, and reprehensible. Colorado DUers, please let him know that you, as a constituent, demand better.

2. We should always take dead and wounded soldiers seriously
Maybe if Allard had ever served, he'd know that.

3. my note from another thread
Senator Allard;
I viewed your speech on the Senate floor today with great dismay. You see,I am the mother of a soldier who has been to Iraq twice and Afghanistan once, who has been in treatment for PTSD,and who will never be the same again. What is YOUR military experience?I didn't see it listed in your biography. My gut feeling is that you are basically a coward party man who likes to play toy soldiers with other people's kids. Are your sons over there,in harm's way?Do you risk losing the most precious thing in the world?I am through with you hypocritical, lying Republicans who are so quick to malign others, while the biggest war criminals sit in Washington with a capital R after their names.People like you make me ashamed to be an American.

5. here's my letter
I know, I could do better, but I'm too mad right now to think of something more elaborate than that.

Senator Allard,

You were unreasonably hostile and rude towards Senator Kerry today. Lets face it; the Senator has voiced what the majority of Americans have been thinking for a while now; Iraq has gone from bad to worse, and it is time to get our troops home.
You would rather show allegiance to the administration and advocate staying the course even if it leads off a cliff. What are you, a lemming?
You owe Senator Kerry at least an apology, if not an hour or two of your time to really study his plan. It is a good one, I assure you.

Kerry and Allard Scrap on the Senate Floor — The Veteran vs. the Veterinarian: Who Do You Trust?
April 6th, 2006 @ 5:34 pm

Wayne Allard staged a deplorable, vile attack on John Kerry today on the Senate Floor. It was a cowardly act, as Kerry was in a committee meeting at the time of the attack. He returned to the Senate floor to rebuke Allard’s attack after his committee and issued a scathing rebuttal (to be posted soon).

Just who does Wayne Allard think he is? I don’t know a lot of people who will stand for a veterinarian questioning a veterans’ patriotism.

While Kerry was in committee, Wayne Allard said:

“I would like to start off by saying I’ve been very supportive of the president on the war of Iraq because he has had a plan and he has stayed the course. That’s what gives me confidence in the president.

I do think that what we see today in the criticism of the president from Senator Kerry, we’re seeing an individual who’s being spun in the political winds, unlike the president. http://blog.thedemocraticdaily.com/?p=2547

John Kerry Responds to Senator Allard’s Iraq Attacks with a Stunning Rebuke
April 6th, 2006 @ 6:02 pm

Mr. President, a little while ago I was fought here. I was at a hearing of the finance committee. I am informed that the Senator from Colorado, Senator Allard, came to the floor to attack my position on Iraq, which is fine by me, but also I think somewhat questionably with respect to the rules and the etiquette of the Senate to attack me personally for my motives with respect to the position I have taken. And the Senator from Colorado suggested that — quote — “we’re seeing an individual who is being spun in the political winds.”

Well, let me make it clear to the Senator from Colorado and anybody who wants to debate Iraq, when it comes to issues of war and peace and of young Americans dying, nobody spins me period. And I’m not going to listen to the Senator from Colorado or anyone else questions my motives when young Americans are dying on a daily basis or losing their limbs because Iraqi politicians won’t form a government from an election that they held in December. That is just inexcusable; let me ask the Senator from Colorado, it is okay by him that young Americans are dying right now while politicians in Baghdad are frittering away the time and the opportunity that our soldiers fought to give them?
