This morning on NPR - an epiphany
They were interviewing a relative who was taken by the Pentagon to a special preview viewing of the audio tapes from the planes. Emotional stuff
The government even had audio of all the person phone calls from the planes to their relatives. The first thought was, this was truly sad.

Wait.

ON 9/11 OUR GOVERNMENT WAS ALREADY RECORDING ALL PHONE CALLS FROM AIRPLANES TO THE GROUND?

WHEN DID THEY START DOING THAT? Without warrants?

What the hell is going on here?

1. I know there were some that were left on answering machines and
..voice mail. And the others were from 911 calls. That would be really interesting to see if there were some actual live calls from the people on the plane to unknowing relatives.

19. A company called Ptech (now GoAgile) may be able to help you on this
as they were under contract with the FAA during the 9-11 wargames and may have had access to the computer systems in use by the government that day.

and Citgroup (was that the financial institution?)?

""Ptech’s clients in 2001 included the Department of Justice, the Department of Energy, Customs, Air Force, the White House, the FAA, IBM, Sysco, Aetna, and Motorola, to name just a few....

Ptech’s Middle East branch called Horizons, received projects directly from Ptech, and is used to outsource projects for Ptech’s US clients. Other clients come from the Middle East and include clients such as the Egyptian military, the Saudi Bin Laden Company, and the Afghan based BTC Bin Laden Telecom, which provided pre-paid telephone calls.""

Apparently Ptech/GoAgile still is working inside the White House and those other government and defense agencies. Hmmm.

26. There is a likelihood that the government used new voice-replicating
technology to create these phone calls. The technology was available and could have pulled off the ruse if they had only small samples of the passengers' voices. It's explained here in a long but well-worth-watching video that puts the MIHOP idea in perspective.

4. They've done so much for so long they take it for granted
The propagandists let it slip right by without thinking twice about that.

Good catch! Now we have names of people spied upon about events that had NOTHING to do with communications between Al Qaeda and foreign nationals. I wonder if any of them would be pissed enought at the warrantless wiretapping to bring a case?

Someone in the ACLU needs to feel out the families to find a test case.

5. Great point. On a slightly different note,
there has been some discussion about whether or not it was even possible to use a cell phone from the plane at a certain altitude, over in the 9/11 forum. Could all of these cell phone calls have happened at all????

With the older call phone technology it would be even more unlikely. Scam.

14. The Pentagon plane would never have reached high altitude.
I don't know if these tapes are just from that plane, or all of them. The Pentagon plane only flew for maybe 5 minutes from Dulles, so would have been low and over well-coverd cellphone areas the whole way.

6. The evidence seems to point to right after they took office.
I suspect that all the mechanism was in place during Clinton's tenure, merely awaiting activation. I got the impression, from listening that fat rascal in charge of NSA, recently retired, that he, himself, was anxiously, eagerly anticipating the chance to further the fascist agenda.

Although the dawg did some good while in office and he certainly was no prize, his gang was far, far better than this den of thieves.

10. It's been going on since Bush** took office!!
Read this article at TruthOut:

Bush Authorized Domestic Spying Before 9/11
By Jason Leopold
t r u t h o u t | Perspective

Friday 13 January 2006

The National Security Agency advised President Bush in early 2001 that it had been eavesdropping on Americans during the course of its work monitoring suspected terrorists and foreigners believed to have ties to terrorist groups, according to a declassified document.

The NSA's vast data-mining activities began shortly after Bush was sworn in as president and the document contradicts his assertion that the 9/11 attacks prompted him to take the unprecedented step of signing a secret executive order authorizing the NSA to monitor a select number of American citizens thought to have ties to terrorist groups.

In its "Transition 2001" report, the NSA said that the ever-changing world of global communication means that "American communication and targeted adversary communication will coexist."

13. It's possible
.4 watts (400mW) is plenty if you're within a few miles of a tower and have a direct line of sight. Windows are good enough.

FRS radios have a range of a few miles with even less power.

Height is the key. With no terrestrial objects blocking or weakening the signal, you can get fantastic range. I once had a conversation with an operator across Lake Ontario when our local signal was blocked. But those were what we call "freak" conditions.

Yes, the older analog phones have the best range, and in 2001 they were still very much in use.

The article doesn't exactly describe an irrefutable impossibility.

20. Another 9-11 Myth
First of all, whenever I see a rense.com url, I pretty much know to expect bullshit.

Cell phones were used all over the country from the air to the ground on 9-11. Planes were grounded, remember? People had to make arrangements and people were using their cell phones from the air like crazy.

To read about the myth of cell phones from the air:
http://911myths.com/html/mobiles_at_altitude.html

A lot of good information on that whole site. That is, IF, you don't want to believe all the "Rense-like" crap that floats around.

16. Some of them were 911 calls (not 9/11) and they always record those.
I think you might have a point with the others that weren't answering machines or the like. I wonder if all of them could be that.

I found one tape that was a lady calling the American Airlines service desk. They tape them for quality assurance (as you may here every time you call someone.)

I wouldn't rush to judgment. If people do find tapes that have absolutely no reason to have been recorded and must have been recorded by the government, please post the link in another thread with big type. We really only need on like that, and I bet the search skills of this entire forum can probably find one if they do exist.

17. You cell phone calls are never secure.
I don't know where I heard this, but I've known for some time. They are very easy to eavesdrop on, and they also act as GPS devices for knowing where you are when you call.

18. I mentioned this issue to several conservative friends downtown.
They all had listened to the "recreation of the events" and had been suckered in. Until I mentioned the ability to record BEFORE the event.

TO a person, all of them were shocked to their marrow.

This goes deeper than we realize.

21. NSA's echelon system has been operative for 10 years.
So the capability to record anything anywhere has been there for a long time. The smoking gun is there if all the 9-1-1 (not 9-11) calls and answering machine recordings can be ruled out.
