BushCo THOUGHT they were safe early in the Plamegate scandal
If I remember correctly, BushCo thought they would be safe from danger when this story first broke because it was assumed that AG Ashcroft would stymie and whitewash any investigation. I believe that top officials made statements to investigators believing that Ashcroft would continue to manage the investigation. Ashcroft recused himself AFTER they made statements and the situation changed. The initial statements made to investigators then became a problem and the scandal has grown ever since.

1. Comey threw the monkey wrench in the mix, because Ashcroft HAD to recuse
And Comey, the #2, was the one to appoint the Special Prosecutor, NOT Ashcroft!

Gonzalez cannot touch the issue either, because of his WH ties--so Fitz is, in essence, an INDEPENDENT entity. The WH has actually tried to get him off the case, claiming he has no standing (shades of the "IMPEACH THE COX SACKER" days of Nixon!) but without success.

2. Amazing how many of their people they have hung out to dry
on this one.

Judith Miller, rotting in prison.
Scooter, twisting on the rotisserie.

Perhaps these 'aspens' will all turn together . . .

How many of your cohorts can you stab in the back before they turn on you?

4. Libby is well paid for his role, that position in the think tank will
provide him a nice life after pardon.

3. These guys
thought they could get away with anything-they had congress and the judiciary in their pockets and figured nothing matters let's do whatever the hell we please. What I've been thinking about is how Katrina changed everything-the moment they jumped the proverbial shark.Even If nothing DOES happen history will be writing a nasty legacy to these thieves/liars---good
