BAGHDAD (AFX) - At least 79 people were killed and 164 wounded in three suicide blasts as worshippers were leaving a Shiite mosque in the Iraqi capital after weekly Friday prayers, state television said quoting the health ministry.

Earlier an Iraqi health ministry official said at least 69 people had died and 130 were wounded in the blasts.

The blasts took place outside the Baratha mosque in northern Baghdad, whose imam, or prayer leader, Sheikh Jalaluddin al-Saghir, is an MP with the Shiite United Iraqi Alliance, the largest parliament bloc.

Three US troops killed in Iraq

BAGHDAD - The US military announced Friday the death of three of its troops across Iraq over the past 24 hours.
One soldier was killed in Baghdad Friday following a small arms fire attack, the US military said in a statement.

A second soldier was killed Thursday when his vehicle hit a roadside bomb near Baiji, 200 kilometres (124 miles) north of the capital, the military said in a separate statement.

The third, a marine, was killed in the western Al-Anbar province Thursday in enemy action, the military added.

MARINE KILLED NEAR AL QAIM

Description: CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq – An Iraqi Army Soldier allegedly shot and killed a U.S. Marine on a Coalition base near al Qaim April 6.

The Iraqi Soldier was also wounded in the incident. He was evacuated to Balad and was listed in very serious condition.

The incident is under investigation.

The name of the deceased Marine is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and release by the Department of Defense.

I lost it and told him about the story of a man who was beheaded in front of a classroom full of kids. I eventually cooled off, but hearing of these bombings has made me sick again.

Teacher Beheaded In Classroom
Their visit came as more violence was reported across Iraq, including a terrifying incident Wednesday in the western city of Ramadi.

Insurgents burst into English teacher Khidhir al-Mihallawi's classroom at Sajariyah High School, accused him of being an agent for the CIA and Israeli intelligence and beheaded him in front of his students, according to students, fellow teachers and a doctor at a local hospital.

Saturday, seven people - mostly civilians killed in their homes by mortar fire - died and several others were wounded in a battle between the Shiite Mahdi Army militia and Sunni insurgents near Mahmoudiya, about 20 miles south of the capital.

At least 13 other people were killed in scattered violence Saturday. Also, two more bodies were found in the capital. They were shot in the head with their hands and feet bound.

BAGHDAD, 3 April (IRIN) - Children's education is being severely affected by ongoing sectarian violence, say officials at the Ministry of Education.

"Teachers have informed us that a high percentage of students aren't attending class, especially primary schools students," said senior ministry official Sarah Obeid. "The main reason for this is their families' fears due to the increase of sectarian violence."

According to Obeid, at least 30 percent of Iraqi students are not attending school, with the situation much worse in districts of the capital, Baghdad, where violence has been most in evidence. "The violence between Sunnis and Shi'ites is affecting innocent children," Obeid added.

Some parents have also noted growing discrimination in schools along sectarian lines. "Some teachers were treating my two sons very badly," said Abu Muhammad, a father of two, who recently removed his children from the school in question.
