Just ONE QUESTION - that is all I ask
Today in Snotty's press briefing - there were several times that Snotty said the NIE was leaked to counter false/frivolous assertions that were being made by people back in the summer of 2003.

Those Assertions being Patriot Wilson's NYT OP-Ed article stating that there was no Yellowcake. Now our lovely Press corp was fixated on whether/when docs become declassified - which I think is an important topic, but they let Snotty off the hook several times.

These false assertions that were being countered by the leaking of portions of the NIE - uhhhhh

TURNED OUT TO BE VERY TRUE!!!! NO YELLOWCAKE, NO WMD'S -

Why do they let him get away with these obvious errors/contradictions??? Seems like to me this would have exploded the briefing -

I am going crazy over this

just thought you should know.

4. The question I want desperately to ask is...
If you are so certain you did not break any law, why have you let this drag on for years and not come forward sooner?

6. It's "Am-news-ia"
They avoid putting anything into context or even pointing out inconsistencies. And without the proper frame I think many people don't see the weight of certain events.

In the immortal words of David Bowie:

"Can you remember your President Nixon? Can you remember the bill you have to pay? Or even yesterday?..."

9. My question
I would have asked "why did not come out and say that he declassified it back then, instead of having to find out years into an investigation? What was he trying to hide?"

7. Why do you assume he's getting away with anything? Look
at the threads on DU. See what articles are being written now. Before no one even wrote about the bad things, the lies, the deaths, the 'I' word. Things are different now.

bush** is in full bore panic mode. And nothing he does can save his rotten ass. Cheney is universally hated. The rest are lying jackasses. And the people who are sticking up for this administration are doing so at their own peril, because they just look stupid and morally bankrupt themselves.

12. Why aren't there any major liberal media in the US ?
I am mostly thinking of newspapers. In Europe every country has a major daily with a defined political base to the left : the Guardian, Liberation, Aftonbladet etc... etc...

It doesn't mean that those newspapers are propaganda rags. There are serious inquiring journalists as much as there can be serious inquiring journalists to the right...

Regardless of how this turns out, it will be bad politically for * and for the Republicans. Right now, I wish the focus at this point would not be on things we don't know for sure yet - like whether * authorized the outing of Plame or whether the declassification was legal. Regardless, there was a coverup obviously, even if it was simply to save face politically. Simply put, * lied. If the MSM is afraid to call the pResident a bald face liar, they need to at least point out there was an effort to deceive the public about whether * knew anything about the leaks. It's obvious now that he did know, since he authorized at least part of the leaks. That is the real scandal at this point.

But I certainly won't rule out the possibility of it eventually being proved that * authorized the Plame outing. That would be the final nail in the coffin, Impeachment precedings would be under way immediately if that is proven.

22. Welcome to DU, theDash!
:hi:

I consider the facts tending to prove a conspiracy to intentionally deceive and defraud Congress and the American people into an unnecessary war a separate criminal matter from Plamegate and one that may be considered even more egregious than what they did to Joe and Valerie.

They must be held accoutable for their actions.

13. Drives me freakin' nuts, too. The administration intentionally,...
,...misrepresented the WMD threat. That fact has become clearer over time with the DSM and other memos and NOW the recent assertion by the administration that Bush declassified the info about Wilson.

So, Wilson writes about the false Niger assertion: I repeat, FALSE NIGER ASSERTION by the administration. The administration decides to "declassify" parts of a misleading NIE in order to counter facts PROVING the administration had misrepresented the truth. NOW, Snotty says the information was released for American's best interests because false assertions were being made that the administration misrepresented the truth.

AAARRRRGGGGHHH!!!! Talk about the lie that grows and grows.

20. It drives me freakin' nuts
that the American people are so narrow minded that they listen only to TV pundits and the crooks in the WH. Most of us here were absorbing input from the UN watch dogs on Iraq who were debunking Bushco's claims that Saddam was in a position to strike the US. We were paying attention to what the rest of the world were believing and what they knew; the marches and speacking out against the war. How anyone could have believed Colin Powell's inept and weak presentation at the UN drives me freakin' nuts.

15. K&R Former Prosecutor at FireDogLake has some expert honing in on
the legal and political issue that bush is trying to dodge.

"A reminder: while the president may have had the authority to declassify the NIE and even if he had the power to pass that authority to veep, this is a separate issue from leaking Plame’s covert status. That is something I don’t think the president/vp can declassify, since her status is not a document but an operational condition. Let’s keep that in mind. Meaning, even if there was no conspiracy, somebody blew the cover of an “operative” (distinct job category from “analyst”), and that is a felony. If I am wrong about this, someone please correct me."

"And of course, there are the ever-present perjury and obstruction angles, as Libby now knows. This just gets curiouser and curiouser. Why is the NYSun of all rags exposing this, unless, as I believe a conscious decision has been made by KKKarl to dump the whole shebang on Cheney. Iraq, Plame, everthing. W missed his Friday luncheon with Dick last week, I wonder if he’ll be around the WH tomorrow."

17. The conspiracy to intentionally out a CIA and op HAS TO BE,...
,...A CRIME. I remember some discussion about how proving intent is so difficult that the charge is avoided. However, it seems to me that there is puh-lenty of evidence proving the mens rea associated with these assholes' activities.

18. The big irony is
that OTHER portions of the SAME NIE backed up Wilson's assertions.

Not only is that irony... it proves that Bush's intelligence was not as sketchy as his administration keeps claiming. It proves that he hand-picked only some of the intelligence he was given, namely, the stuff that would lead us to war.

24. So Scotty is admitting that they exposed the entire Brewster Jennings
covert operation which really was supposed to stop the spread of WMD?

Dear Press - someone ask them why they never told us about this authorization prior to the election? Why now, after millions of dollars in investigation? Why now when it's simply getting close to the top?

But forget all those petty things - here's the one and only you need to ask:

Why did the President authorize this and totally blow Brewster Jennings cover at a time we needed what they were doing so badly?
