"Dictators ride to and fro on tigers that they dare not dismount. And the
tigers are getting hungry." -- Winston Churchill

Bush's numbers are in the sewer which should scare the hell out of everyone. The spin mojo ain't working, they desperately need a diversion, and we all know what it is. Bombing the shit out of Iran.

They're probably just waiting for the moment when it will produce the greatest effect in their favor for the November elections. They know that the vast majority of us and the rest of the world is against them. So what? Once the bombs start falling, a majority of imbeciles will scream "We gotta' unite behind our president."

And what can we do to stop it? Not one goddamn thing. BushCo knows that, and their attitude is "Go Cheney yourself." And in reply, we can ... ???

5. Could our armed forces refuse?
Edited on Fri Apr-07-06 01:43 PM by gristy
Well, not could they. But would they? If they were to perceive such an attack as arising solely from domestic politics, and that such an attack would be wholely not in the best interests of our country, would they refuse the order? Would such a refusal be a de-facto military coup? Or something less?

8. If orders are unlawful, they are obligated to refuse
At least, if the precedent the United States set at the Nuremburg Trials still carry the weight of precedent.

13. It's also codified in the UCMJ that...
...they have an obligation not to obey illegal orders.

6. Bushco are already planning another 9/11 style attack.

They had Bin Ladens body guard on 60 minutes the other night setting up the background story. He is in exile in Yemen. The story went back and forth between him and a CIA head of the Bin Laden task force. Bin Laden's aid said that there will be another big attack on America because Bin Laden said there would be one and he is a man of his word. I think there will be one because Bush needs an attack and so do his GOP followers.

9. Believe the military in the Pentagon may be conservative but they are not
crazy and every few months a Pentagon Iraq Generals states in the MSM that bush is breaking the finest fighting force in the world. Rep. Murtha seemed to be speaking for the Joint Chiefs and by contacting the media and Congress and even posting on messageboards, I think it MAY give those who have the power to do something the courage to go ahead and do it, whatever that may be. I hope it is not worse than what we have now but then again...

11. Iran is definitely on the election year agenda
I think they may be trying to hold it for an October surprise because they know the bounce will be shortlived and need it as close to election day as possible.

We the people have only 2 choices:

1. vote in a Congress that will hold him accountable
2. take to the streets

I think most Americans are opting for #1, thinking there is still a chance that will happen. If it doesn't, and Iran becomes yet another bloody mess, option #2 WILL happen.

12. As much as I can empathize with option #2, it would just be an elegant way
of committing suicide.

The police and military will follow orders. Hell, most of them never heard of Nuremberg. And this is not meant as an attack on them. I literally mean that the word Nuremberg might well be meaningless to a great number of them.

Besides, asking them to revolt against their leadership would require a leader who could stay alive long enough to "throw the rascals out." The question then becomes, "and then what?"

14. Oh yes definitely it would
unless it was a nationwide spontaneous display...like what has happened in other countries when the people get thoroughly fed up.

I think #1 will come to pass. I really do.
