What happens after the next terror attack?
There will be one sooner or later. I figure Homeland Security will be mostly unprepared for the aftermath based on the reaction to Katrina.

Will America

go further in a state of permanent lock-down ?

or

grow up and decide to get on with life and dump Bush's Homeland Insecurity Department?

1. I would hope that the Dems yell loudly and continuously
how the Bush admin isn't protecting us, same way they didn't on 9/11

3. Martial law, complete lockdown
Elections postponed indefintely, restrictions on movement, people rounded up for "extreme rendition", mostly liberals of course.

And the sheeple people will welcome it with open arms. In their fear they will throw away their freedom.

14. I forget what the exact number was
But about a year after 911 a poll was done concerning this very subject. Sadly, an overwhelming number of people wouldn't only accept martial law after another "terrorist" attack, but would practically demand that it be implemented.

The stupidity of the populace just boggles the mind sometimes.

15. I posted the same thought on another thread a little earlier and

included the following quote, and said intelligence should be substituted for taste.

Henry Louis Mencken (1880-1956). No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.

Not in NYC or DC. New Pearl Harbor redux...

7. I heard it would be a tactical Nuke on a ship offshore. They will claim
wire taps lead them to it and stopped it.

Edited on Fri Apr-07-06 04:05 PM by cherokeeprogressive
Whoa. Who'd you "hear" that from? Did "they" tell you? Or is it that someone you know is privy to some pretty important information?

6. All I know is that something is gonna get bombed...
As for the Patriot Act, that thing is going to take a dem pres and a dem congress to get rid of.

You pose the question of what the people want. They want to feel safe at the clear detriment to their freedom.

8. Martial Law and the end of the Constitution, according to...
Edited on Fri Apr-07-06 03:43 PM by VolcanoJen
... General Tommy Franks (Ret.), in a 2003 interview.

Of course, take it with a grain of salt, because in the same interview, he said President Bush would be "ultimately judged as a man of great character." :eyes:

Tommy Franks: Martial Law Will Replace Constitution After Next Terror Attack

Discussing the hypothetical dangers posed to the U.S. in the wake of Sept. 11, Franks said that "the worst thing that could happen" is if terrorists acquire and then use a biological, chemical or nuclear weapon that inflicts heavy casualties.

If that happens, Franks said, "... the Western world, the free world, loses what it cherishes most, and that is freedom and liberty we've seen for a couple of hundred years in this grand experiment that we call democracy."

<snip>

"It means the potential of a weapon of mass destruction and a terrorist, massive, casualty-producing event somewhere in the Western world - it may be in the United States of America - that causes our population to question our own Constitution and to begin to militarize our country in order to avoid a repeat of another mass, casualty-producing event. Which in fact, then begins to unravel the fabric of our Constitution. Two steps, very, very important."

12. Actually, I anticipate another war BEFORE another terror attack.
Edited on Fri Apr-07-06 03:41 PM by Just Me
I don't know why,...it's just an intuitive feeling that terror attacks will follow the next war.

13. Do you think the next war...
... will be timed to coincide late this year with the '06 Midterm elections, or two years from now, in the middle of the '08 Presidential Election?

16. It would get them the most bang for their buck (no pun intended)
Edited on Fri Apr-07-06 03:58 PM by Sinti
Some people will be quite upset if we bomb Iran (enter offending country of choice here if Iran doesn't please you). Bring on the terror attack, which opens up the martial law/police state option to the Chimperor, and anyone who has anything negative to say about the policies can be silenced quickly, quietly and with the greatest of ease, sending a strong message to other unhappy folks that this kind of behavior will not be accepted. Clever.

17. Erect bogeyman. Wave flag. Start war. Never fails.
It won't even take anything on the scale of 9/11. The ironic thing is that we're the dog being wagged by the Al-queda tail.
