Bad Weather Night in TN, N AL, MS, KY Thread... Check in Southern DUer's

I have so been meaning to pick up thos UPS's for my computer, phones and television.

It's (weather) been bad in TN all day just about with golf ball sized hail and now we're seeing wall clouds in N. Alabama.

It's going to make for an interesting evening and if my Lab doesn't eat me, I'll try to keep tabs and pass on any relevant news.

(I'm gonna get my golf umbrella out and catch a ride to Canada!)

radar links....they're using GIS overlays now...really good stuff....

Not that many basements down this way. I've been through more than my share both here and in KCMO. However, it seems there are 100 warnings and 1000 watches for every one that does historical damage, thank god.

In SE Kentucky, flooding is a problem so many homes are built on crawl spaces or concrete slabs.

pleasant, though hot for this time of year, but if the wind picks up or if storms start I'll enforce the 'stay downstairs rule'. I just meant that I'd try to do it without causing too much anxiety. If the weather turns bad we'll know soon enough because the phone will start ringing off of the hook and hubby will be going to work!

The only safe area inside my house is a hallway; no room for a bed there. I do have a basement, but it has vents to outside, and there are spiders down there. I could face a tornado more easily than I could be in that spidery basement. Thanks for the encouragement. :grin:

I grew up in OK and tornados were fairly normal for us. I'm somewhat used to this. We do what we can to stay preoccupied and it helps.

When I was young my family lived in kansas...sometimes for weeks we spent every evening in our basement due to these nasty things. It was of course much later in the season then.

A super cell over Mcburg & Howell Tenn. Tornado reported on the ground. Weather man says two tornados developing in this cell.

Getting bad around Florence & Muscle Shoals Al. (limestone county) moving east.
Weatherman says 7 storms possibly developing into tornados in these areas.

We got some serious thunderstorms heading our way. The temperature shot up 20 degree today, between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m., and now there are faint rumbles out there.

We had a mild winter down here. We were bound to have some nasty spring weather.

I've already got the candles lit, moved everything to the basement, the usual routine. Even though I bitch about it, in reality I've always adored the storms. When I was little, I remember hearing the sirens, and having to stop playing and rush into a tiny, gradually flooding bomb shelter. Pretty cool.

I only hope that the power endures, lest my time here on DU tonight be cut short.

We've been on the phone a lot tonight. Looks like they're past the worst of it, though north Alabama is definitely not out of the woods.

They said the hail was so severe they thought their windows were going to be blown out, but it didn't happen. They do expect, though, that they'll need a new roof and a new paintjob on the truck. But they're OK.

and they're pretty long in the tooth, so it must have been something.

Of course, since I live in Panama City, they get to spend a good bit of anxious time worrying about me getting hit by a storm, so I guess this was my turn.

I rode out Ivan, and I think it scared them worse than it did me--when my mother called to let me know that there was a tornado not far from me, the phone suddenly went dead. You can imagine what she thought, and I had to go out during the curfew to find a working phone and let her know I was OK. She said that one took a few years off her.

Not familiar with it. I live in Panama City proper, not Panama City Beach, which means that I am only fifteen minutes from the Gulf but never go there. Funny, but it's a point of pride among locals here to brag about how longs it's been since one crossed the bridge to Panama City Beach.
