Norman Rockwell's "Town Meeting" and Harry Taylor

When I saw Mr Taylor standing up and speaking truth to power, this image came to mind.

2. The funny thing is that Rockwell's beliefs would be considered

"far left" today, yet Repugs cling to the notion of "Rockwell's America"as an ideal. Rockwell himself said that the America he (usually) painted never really existed. Odd about that.

6. Early in his career he painted "idealistic" images of what America

could/should be. So in some sense they were illusory and, if taken as fact, misleading. Later on he also produced images showing the harder facts of life in America, and thus earned the emnity of those who wanted the illusion protected. In some way, he is much like Woodie Guthrie, whose anthem "This land is your land, this land is my land" both defines the best of what might be and draws attention to the fact that this is not (yet) the way things are.
