Basic Survival Techniques for Incarceration
http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/Congress/6425/survival.html

Chilling read, but the end is inspiring......

Above all, you must realize that you'll be a prisoner like all the others, reduced to just a number, and no better than an illiterate Cuban whore or white trailer trash.

Never, EVER become involved in gambling. It’s a death trap, as sure as walking into an aryan fest with name badge that says zog.

NEVER involve yourslef with punks. Do not have sex with punks, do not associate with those who have sex with punks, etc. Many an inmate has been killed by a jealous boyfriend. This may not seem like the shiny happy egalitarian thing to do, but believe me, neither is dying.

NEVER invoke debts you cannot repay. It is best not to invoke any debts period. When you first enter any institution, you will be approaced with 241 offers. Meaning that the person will front you 1 item (pack of cigs, commisary food, whatever) but you will have to repay them two. This is a classic trap for unexperienced inmates. If you smoke, quit. If you want items from the commisary, etc. wait until you have money on your books, or your in a position with your prison job that you can run your own hustle, and have items to barter with. The basic rule, is to NEVER take ANYTHING on credit. This will get you killed or seriously injured or TURNED OUT and pimped to pay your bill real fast.

3. Body Language?
Is the ability to read body language important in prison?

I was wondering that when reading that article, because I can't read body language and I have difficulty with modulating my voice as well as eye contact.

Any more information on that?

4. Look at the "lighter" side of life in stir.
MAKE YOUR OWN PRUNO AND MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOUR SOUL.

Pruno, a prison wine created from fruit, sugar and ketchup, is such a vile and despicable beast in the California state penal system that prisoners can't eat fresh fruit at lunch.

Back in December 2002, the warden at Lancaster prison in Los Angeles County removed fresh fruit from box lunches in the maximum-security lockup, as an effort to reduce violence. Apparently, sober, scurvy-addled felons are much easier to control than drunken, violent convicts.

So, perhaps this plan is flawed. And perhaps it's also worth noting that exactly one year earlier at a different L.A. County prison -- the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center in Santa Clarita Valley -- hatched a scheme to let inmates pick grapes at a winery and shag golf balls at a local driving range. While the County's effort to combat pruno are suspect, there's no deny that pruno is a huge problem, increasing the levels of violence and allowing convicts to continue their had habits while in prison.

5. For those of your who've spent any time in these places
If you haven't read this BOOK or seen it while there, then read it NOW, and I would advise just about anyone I know to read it - it saved my sanity and my life I think while I did a cute little stint in Alabama because a fascist Judge didn't much like me, and who even in her sentencing mentioned that she had no "evidence"..

Hell, WHO needs evidence when you're a Judge, eh?

So for 21 lovely days I was treated to the Southern Hospitality offered to those from California, who apparently are all Commie Pinko fag drug addicted Satan worshipping butt fuckers..

And that's just in FAMILY COURT :) the county jail in Alabama has been compared BY CONGRESS to South African prisons, btw..

But I'm not kidding about the book. THis reminds me that I need to buy a bunch of them and donate them to a jail somewhere, never seen a book cross so many religions without stepping on any toes, and let you know that YOU KNOW that YOU are a valuable addition to the Universe, no matter where you are, in or out of jail, and DOING TIME.

The title is "We're ALL Doing Time" and if you are in jail the book is free. THe copy I found in my cell was a half torn up copy (no TP does that to you), but what was left gave me so much peace and dignity despite all that was around me.

They should dispense this book along with your blanket, jumpsuit and lice.

Here's the link to the book and the foundation, check into it, read up on this guy and some of the people he's helped who had NO HOPE, in or out of jail, and you will be pleasantly surprised. I'd love to donate a buttload of money to these folks as they are the real deal :)
