Leak-hating president as leaker-in-chief?

By TOM RAUM
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush insists a president "better mean what he says." Those words could return to haunt him.

After long denouncing leaks of all kinds, Bush is confronted with a statement - unchallenged by his aides - that he authorized a leak of classified material to undermine an Iraq war critic.

The allegation in the CIA leak case threatens the credibility of a president already falling in the polls, and it gives Democrats fresh material to accuse him of hypocrisy.

"In politics, what gets bad gets worse," said GOP strategist Ed Rogers. "And we've been on a a bad roll for quite some time. We're in an environment now where every mistake is a metaphor."

Just Thursday, Bush emphasized the importance of straight talk. "When the president says something, he better mean what he says," he told a North Carolina audience. "In order to be effective, in order to maintain credibility, words have got to mean something. You just can't say things in the job I'm in and not mean what you say."

4. That picture is very interesting
If you put your hand over the right side of his face (his right side), and look at his left side, he looks frightened to me. On the other hand, the right side of his face suggests (to me, anyway) that he is rather pleased with himself.

I think the press can no longer ignore all the lies, mistakes, and atrocities that can be attributed to this administration.

5. He has been exposed
in a way that does him more harm than anything previous. Several times on DU, I've spoken about the "three groups" in politics -- those who always support you; those who always oppose you; and the undecided -- and this concept comes into play here.

When we look at a scandal like the domestic spying, people on DU "get it." People like Spam Hannity don't care about the Constitution. So it comes down to that third group, and as long as Bush & Co could play the "Everything changed on 9-11, and I'm just protecing America!" card, group #3 does not appreciate the potential threat domestic spying to all we hold as of value in that Bill of Rights.

But in the Plame scandal, the administration can't play "national security." Those in group #2 will continue to hate Wilson, and love Bush. But group #3 is seeing Bush exposed -- a liar and a political opportunist who plays games with national security to justify a lie.

A number of republicans in Washington have said, off the record, that Fitzgerald's Document #80 is the single worst thing that has happened to the president.

11. I would venture to guess that the members of
group 3 actually out number the members of groups 1 and 2. Those of us that are "politically aware", whether we be "for" or "against" the current administration, are the minority.

Most folks accept the basic notion that leaders will do what is necessary to lead, even if it is to lead corruptly. They see all politicians as "corrupt" it is just a matter of degrees relative to that corruption. They have a belief in this nation and all she stands for and they believe that all who are serving in power hold similar beliefs, that they care about our nation over and above everything else. What they will not accept is the open violation of national security laws that were enacted to protect the nation.

Off topic now, when I clicked on your post my pointer stopped at * left nostril, it looked like he had snotty dribbling out with a band aid on his forehead. Made me do a double take, at first I thought maybe he finally went off the deep end.
