Political "Pre-emptive Strike"????

Isikoff's article has me worried in the sense that Bush and his minions getting desperate enough to actually do something stupid like "nuke" Iran.

My question is this:

Can Congress pre-emptively pass a resolution forbidding Bush from using Military Force against Iran without a declaration of war?

I suspect we could pick up some Republican votes on this just because Congress (both House and Senate) would want to re-assert their authority over the Executive Branch.

Can we discuss this?

Is there a Congressman or Senator who would join us in a discussion?

1. Congress has shown no interest in declaring

war in Iraq which should have been done 3 years ago... why should this concern them?

2. I asked the same question earlier...maybe this is what we should

be bombarding congress with....I think we would have to have sit ins at their offices for them to take us seriously. No more protests in Wash. We need to be in their faces at home. God knows their always on vacation!

4. Yes. But, Constitution provides for declaration of War. Ignored in Iraq.

I think that one of the very worst things to come out of Iraq - and there is much, including megadeath - is that a declaration of war is apparently no longer necessary for a president to obey the Constitution, and the war powers of Congress. We need to go back to the Constitution, but I GUARANTEE you that we are going to continue to go the other way. Sorry, moderators, for the Caps. But that's where I would like to leave it.

7. ..reminds me of the Boland Ammendment...

which congress passed to prevent Reagan from arming the Contra's. The result being they find another way to get what they want. The ability these ashats have to argue the Constitution to enact anything they want is incredible. I would love to see Congress at least try to hold someone accountable...but, from where I sit, the laws of this country are not applied equally...and those crimes that do manage to be prosecuted, albeit narrowly scoped so as not to offend, result in the lightest punishment. revolution?

true enough, Reagan found a way around the amendment but in the end, there were still indictments for disobeying, or more accurately, hearings and indictments for perjury and obstruction....

a tool is what we need...

something to force accountability...
