Heads Up: Tim Russert CNBC interviewing author of "Foxes in the Henhouse"
It appears that there are two authors of this book; they are discussing the takeover of our government by lobbyists and corporations, and the problems in general with the B* White House, and the "forgotten America". Will also discuss a 'plan of action' for the Democratic Party.

Might be good. If there are any DUers who have read this book, please comment!

3. These guys are great!
I'm pissed, I tuned in at the point they were saying that Kerry should have taken it to the Swifties, bringing up Leviticus to neuter the fundies, making it again about the economy stupid.

Essentially not taking the repuke bait and putting them on defense for a change. It has always been this simple, have never understand why those at the "top" don't get it.

guys are "right on" -- allowed Republicans to frame the election, neglected the South, didn't fight back when John Kerry was being attacked, Democrats are afraid to discuss issues that may not be "blanket" issues -- gun control, God, etc.

Good interview, and a good book -- "Foxes in the Henhouse"

13. I've certainly been impressed with what I've been hearing so far
Some of it is difficult to hear, but not facing the truth isn't the answer.

Dems claim to be the party of the people. and I do believe they are, but if they give up on the south and the mid-west, if they don't pay attention to those areas of the country, then they will continue to lose. They WILL come off as elitists, whether it's true or not. I have got to get this book!

4. It was a great interview.
It makes me want to read their book. They pointed out how Democrats ALLOW the Republicans to frame all of the issues.....and THEN respond to them. Kerry should have told Bush he wanted to debate their military records and not back away from the swiftboat accusations. When Thune accused Daschle (a former intelligence officer) of treasonous behavior, one of the authors said Daschle should have crawled over the table and gone after Thune. (Democrats are too meek and mild-mannered.)

Their solutions seemed very sensible and oftentimes EXACTLY what has been suggested at DU.

I am definitely going to put it on my list.   :hi:

7. When I read the book it will be interesting to see if
they mention that the Republican Southern dominance started back in 1965 when LBJ signed the voting rights act..this really lit the fuse that ignited the Republican take over of the South..

9. You have that 100% correct. Southern Democrats changed parties...I'm
certain that they discuss this, probably at length. I listened to one of the authors (maybe it was both?) weeks ago on C-Span reviewing the book, and that issue was discussed, IIRC, although I didn't catch the entire review. I enjoyed very much what I heard then and tonight.

14. As a southerner for 58 years, I would say these guys nailed it

And some of the DUers who constantly start these southern bashing threads and NASCAR bashing threads are just making things worse. They laugh about people voting against their own self interests, and then they turn around and hurt their own political party by alienating potential voters.

A few points I noticed in the interview......

The gun control example was a good one. Basically, democrats in Boston believe their idea of gun control should be forced on the rural people of Virginia or North Dakota.

The south now has a population of over 100,000 and growing. Why do the democrats ignore almost 40% of the potential voters? As one of the guys said, "We need to learn how to count".

The dems have totally ignored the hunters and conservationists in the south. There are literally millions of them. Their hunting habitats are being destroyed by the repukes, but not one word is heard from the dems about this. Like NASCAR, hunters are to be avoided like the plague.

Did you hear what Mudcat said about Warner visiting a NASCAR race. Warner told the NASCAR guys he didn't know anything about the sport, so the NASCAR guys basically said, "We will teach you". They also pointed out that NASCAR was now a national sport. The two biggest sporting events in New England every year are the two NASCAR races in New Hampshire that attract crowds of over 100,000 per race.

The democratic party keeps finding new and creative ways of eliminating potential voters.

15. You highlighted some wonderful points. I was astounded at my
acceptance of their logic re: NRA and hunting! I am so anti-gun, but I found myself readily agreeing with them. I will never view the gun issue as so 'black and white' in the future! The NASCAR issue, I'm sure, is equally good, but my whole being shuns the idea of this even being popular! But that's where cultural education, tolerance and understanding come in, as these guys pointed out. I also really like their brief discussion on the hypocrisies of the Republican Party being the party of 'moral' values and religion! I looked at the book contents online, and they apparently discuss this and other republican lies in great detail. I so agree with your last comment! Democratic leaders need to read this, and put it to use!

17. I made a boo boo and typed the south's population as 100,000
It should have been 100 million.

The NASCAR thing is hard to understand unless you've attended some of the Nextel Cup events. Watching on television can be boring, but it's quite a spectacle when you attend one live. The sport has grown so in recent years that now most of the fans and drivers come from outside the traditional southeastern United States. Take the two races in Michigan. 160,000 fans will attend each race, and many of them are union members who use to vote democratic.
