John Kerry on MTP: Will NOT Support War on Iran.

Says Bush shoots from the hip and that's his policy. Destructive to any non-proliferation efforts. Administration NOT engaged in real diplomacy. Military option a TERRIBLE option and they know it. China & Russia needs to join with U.S. in serious sanctions.

Edit to add: A thought. It doesn't matter. Bush has been granted the power to go to war WITHOUT CONSENT OF CONGRESS. Bush can essentially make war with whoever, whenever he wants to. Congress has given Bush this power, willingly, and nobody has yet stood up to him (save Feingold) in order to check his power. The result is a virtual dictator. That, to me, is SCARY.

greivous consequences, so it could be that Bush is bluffing to frighten Iran into abandoning its nuclear program.

From what I've read about the government of Iran, they don't sound all that frightenable.

This sounds to me like a case of Kerry being right and Bush being wrong.

7. I have a question on a pre-emptive war with Iran. Would Bush

have to go back to Congress for a new resolution to attack Iran or is there any kind of a loophole in the Iraq War Resolution that would let him attack Iran without going to Congress first? He has claimed other powers were given to him in the IWR, I just wonder what else he thinks it contains. Also, if he were to provoke Iran into throwing the first punch, as it were, would he be able to start an attack on his own or would he still need to go to Congress first?

I don't think I have seen this discussed anywhere.

13. Sadly...his folks were out last week saying he could go into Iran because

he has the power that Congress gave him for Iraq and Afghanistan and since it's all connected to the World War on Terra. he would not rule out any option when discussing Iran. He called Iran a true threat because the president there has talked about attacking Israel.
