Coingate: Noe gifts to charities & Kaptur wants Congress to investigate
A couple of good stories. Sad thing about the charities, is they get ripped off both ways - having to give money back, but also being victims of the BWC theft since they pay into BWC fund also.

"But now, in the aftermath of allegations that Mr. Noe stole money from the $50 million rare-coin funds he managed for the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation, the state wants to determine if any of his charitable largesse came from the coin funds - and whether it wants the money back.

...

"It would always be hard for an organization like ours to give it back," said Jay Salvage, executive director of the Make A Wish Foundation of Northwest Ohio Inc., which grants wishes to children with a life-threatening illness. Mr. Noe attended several Make A Wish fund-raisers."

Kaptur Weighs Congressional Probe of Noe

"U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur yesterday demanded answers about what happened behind the scenes that led to Tom Noe’s federal appointment to a U.S. Mint advisory committee.

Miss Kaptur, reacting to a Sunday story in The Blade detailing Mr. Noe’s activity in Washington, said she expects the Treasury Department’s inspector general to determine:

• Whether Mr. Noe’s tenure on the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee had any financial impact on his private rare-coin business. The committee advises the Treasury secretary on themes and designs for coins and congressional gold medals.

• Which officials advocated for Mr. Noe’s selection to the committee and his eventual chairmanship, and if rules were changed to allow his ascension to chairman.

• How Mr. Noe was called to testify before a House Financial Services Committee in support of plans for 24-karat gold coins."
