3. I love Wiley's work, and his political material. But. . .
But I don't especially care for his attitude towards the internet in general and internet publishing in particular. He's made it pretty clear that if you're not in ink, no matter how many people are interested in your work, you're just "messing around".

4. That is the prevailing attitude among the established cartoonists
It's like a turf war going on that the readers never see. Believe me, it is a VERY contentious issue among cartoonists. One of them called me "merely a t-shirt vendor" because much of my income is derived from selling swag to people who visit my site to see my otherwise free cartoons.

5. Wiley likes to pick and choose on that, though.
I mean, if catroonists who offer their material for free (and make money on ad space, merchandizing, and bound volumes) aren't real cartoonists, then what about bloggers who offer their columns for free. Their income sources are generally ad-based, and usually the only products they sell are other things they've written. By Wiley's standard, bloggers aren't journalists, or even reporters.

6. Wiley Responds...
(ME) "... that one poster felt compelled to ask if you were a closet DU member. "

(WILEY) "Nope. Not a member of anything, except the AAEC. I didn't even know about the site you're talking about. I simply don't have the time to wander around the internet.

Now, back to the drawing board to work on a Sunday...."

There you have it, straight from the horse's mouth. Er, keyboard.
